NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Funeral services for Albertha Richberg Howard-Shearrod 91, of New Rochelle, New York, will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, July 28 2015, at Greater Sydney Park Baptist Church, Bamberg. Burial will follow in Richburg Family Cemetery on Spring Branch Road, Bamberg.

Mrs. Howard-Shearrod died Friday, July 17, at Montefiore Sound Shore Hospital in New Rochelle.

NEW YORK, NY --Sister Mary Dominica Buttner, a resident of the Wartburg Home in Mount Vernon, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2015 at the age of 101. She was born Rita Mary Buttner in the Bronx on December 17, 1913 to the late George and Matilda (German) Buttner. Along with her parents she was predeceased by her siblings, Joseph and Matilda Buttner. On October 4, 1930 she entered the Sister's of St. Francis Neumann Community and made her final religious profession on July 14, 1936.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Anthony Dutko, Jr., a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on July 26, 2015. He was 94.

Anthony was born on June 10, 1921 in Fairfield, CT to the late Anthony and Katherine (Kozak) Dutko.

He worked for many years as an electrical engineer and was a Purple Heart Recipient during WWII, serving with the US Army.

He is survived by his children; Michael (Deborah) Dutko and Karen (David) Jensen; 4 grandchildren: Philip, Christian, Erik, Leanne.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Lena Francoletti who died on October 16, 1997.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Family and friends in Christ came together to celebrate the life of Paul Ballard at United Pentecostal Church on July 11, 2015. Born on November 2, 1966, Paul came to Juneau 7 years ago from New Rochelle, NY., leaving us June of this year. 

Even in passing, Paul was a giver. His greatest, deepest love was seeing joy on people's faces. He found joy in the simple things in life: fishing, breaking bread with friends, and his beloved bible given to him by his sister in Christ, Starla Miller.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A New Rochelle man charged with narcotics possession proposed a deal that local police officers found less than enticing: don’t arrest me now and I won’t buy crack cocaine anymore. Despite the offer, Billy J. Wilson was arrested by the New Rochelle police and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Class A misdemeanor. The arrest came following a stop on Memorial Highway after Wilson was observed buying drugs at Heritage Homes shortly after midnight on July 24th.

New Rochelle Man from Guatemala Charged with First Degree Rape

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Humberto Agustin, 42, of New Rochelle, NY by way of Guatemala was arrested by New Rochelle police on July 23rd at about 6:00 p.m. and charged with First Degree Rape, a Class B Felony.

Agustin is being held in the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla, NY. His next court appearance is July 27th. He was arrested after a complaint filed from a location on 5th Street in the West End of New Rochelle.

Agustin is not a U.S. citizen, does not have a social security number and was born in Guatemala.

Rental Car Missing for Months: New Rochelle police responded to a report of an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle at 1 Station Plaza in New Rochelle, NY on July 24th shortly before noon.

Complainant, a manager of a Hertz rental location in New Rochelle, NY, stated that Blake Orville rented a 2013 Hyundai Elantra on February 8, 2015 with a return due date of March 1, 2015 and still has not returned the vehicle despite multiple notifications via telephone, mail and in person.

Pool Owners Sought to Participate in Citizen Science Survey to Identify Invasive Beetle

NEW YORK, NY --Pool owners are invited to join in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) fourth annual Asian longhorned beetle (ALB) Swimming Pool Survey now through August 30 to help keep watch for these exotic, invasive beetles before they cause serious damage to our forests and street trees. The Citizen Pool Survey takes place this time of year when ALBs are expected to become adults, emerge from the trees they are infesting and become active outside those trees.
