DiNapoli: New York Jobs Top 9 Million, New Statewide High

NEW YORK, NY --New York reached its highest employment level ever of more than 9 million jobs in 2014, after adding 538,000 jobs since 2009, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The overall job growth in 2014 alone was 143,000 – the strongest growth since 2000 – and capped four years of steady gains.

NEW YORK, NY --The New York State Common Retirement Fund's (Fund) overall return in the first quarter of the state fiscal year 2015-2016 was 0.52 percent for the three-month period ending June 30, 2015, with an estimated value of $182.5 billion, according to New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

"The first quarter presented a challenging investment climate," DiNapoli said. "Nevertheless, New York's pension fund remains strong and well-positioned for the future with a smart, long-term investment strategy."

Women’s Soccer Opened Exhibition Season at Saint Francis University

NEW YORK, NY --The Monroe College women's soccer team opened its exhibition season on Thursday by facing NCAA Division I opponent, Saint Francis University, in Loretto, Pennsylvania.  The Mustangs scored a goal, but fell to the Red Flash, 4-1.

The first half featured the starting 11 for Monroe dominating play.  They led 1-0 at the break as Kathellen Sousa connected with Nicole Rivera for the half's only marker.

The second half saw the Mustangs get several newcomers and all the reserves into the game.  They gained valuable game experience against a Division I opponent.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Edward Williams a longtime resident of New Rochelle, and current resident of Hudson Florida, died on August 14, 2015. He was 73.

Edward was born on November 15, 1941 in New Rochelle to the late Edward Calvin and Mildred (Eddy) Williams. He was an Army Veteran and worked for the United Water Company for over 30 years. He was a member of the VFW and the Hudson, Fl. American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and an antique car enthusiast.
