Monroe Football Opens Pre-Season Practice

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Despite what the mercury in the thermometer reads, fall is quickly approaching and that was evident in New Rochelle's City Park, as the 2015 Monroe College football team opened its pre-season practices earlier this week.  The team comes off a 2014 season that saw the Mustangs earn four wins including a pair of conference victories.

Stop & Shop Scammed by Cashiers for Months

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Cashiers at the Stop & Shop on Palmer Avenue ran a scam for months in which they would trick the cash registers into opening and then take small amounts of cash out. Three people have been arrested with more expected in the coming days.

An Asset Protection Associate for Stop and Shop told police that on August 4th he received data reports which pertained to fraudulent bottle redemptions. He told police that there were many incidents that occurred between May and July of this year.

Ceiling Collapse Shutters Daniel Webster Elementary School in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A ceiling in one of the second floor classrooms at Webster Elementary detached from the ceiling joist and fell to the floor, said Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne in a statement published on the District web site.

Drunk Man Parks in Middle of Intersection, Passes Out: Malcolm Menyenguemfoula, 23, of New Rochelle, NY was arrested and charged with one count of Driving While Intoxicated - First Offense, a Class U Misdemeanor after police found him unresponsive at about 6:00 AM on August 4th. Menyenguemfoula’s car was stopped in the middle of the intersection of Locust Avenue and Fairview Place. The engine was running and the brake was engaged with Menyenguemfoula asleep at the wheel.

As summer turns to fall, we move into election season in New Rochelle. In thinking about another four more years with Noam Bramson as Mayor I went back and read some of his past State of the City addresses. They are depressing. One in particular caught my eye.

As one of the few people in Westchester who actually does investigative reporting — and is well aware that the Journal News has rarely done so — I expressed my enthusiasm for the project. The reporter responded “you won’t be happy.”

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --On August 15th, 2015, The Family Christian Center (FCC) of New Rochelle will host its 2015 Summer Send off Concert. The event will take place at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle, NY from 1:00p.m. to 5:00p.m. Food, Inflatable rides, live performances, free backpacks and school supplies will be available for attendees. “The mission of FCC is to provide the community with enrichment.
