WHITE PLAINS, NY --In honor of those whose lives were lost or forever changed by the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, County Executive Robert P. Astorino will join Volunteer New York! and Robison to host “9/11: Serve + Remember” at the Westchester County Center on Friday, Sept. 11, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Special focus will be given this year to the everyday heroes who save lives by donating blood, bone marrow and stem cells, as well as those who volunteer as first responders in their communities.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The August, 2015 meeting of the New Rochelle Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting will be held on Monday, August 17th at 7:30 pm in the Ossie Davis Theater of the New Rochelle Public Library. 

The Library Board of Trustees normally meets in the library’s Ossie Davis Theater on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m., with a public-to-be-heard session at 8:15 p.m.

NEW YORK, NY --The Brooklyn-based Long Quan Seafood Corp. pleaded guilty to felony commercialization of wildlife on June 22 in Brooklyn Criminal Court and paid a $10,000 fine for trafficking in shark fins, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Acting Commissioner Marc Gerstman announced today.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --There will be a 9/11 Commemorative Service & Candlelight Vigil, hosted by The United Veterans Memorial & Patriotic Association of New Rochelle,  on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 8:00 PM, at the American Legion Post 8 Hall, 112 North Avenue, New Rochelle. Doors will open at 7:30 PM.

Come join us as we remember our fallen brothers and sisters who perished on or because of September 11, 2001.  It will be an evening of healing through an Interfaith Prayer Service, patriotic songs, and remarks from those who lost loved ones because of 9/11.

Man Caught Red-Handed Ransacking Car in West End

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Robert Grosso, 28, of Yonkers, NY was arrested and charged with Petit Larceny, a Class A Misdemeanor after he was caught red-handed in another person's car in front of their house.

Complainant stated that, alterted by a neighbor, he found Robert Grosso sitting inside his vehicle, searching through the glove compartment. He asked Gross “What the F— are you doing?” Gross replied “I am sorry. I am high. I wasn’t trying to take anything. I thought it was my girlfriend’s car.”

Rash of Car Break-Ins Hit Area Near Eastchester Road

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- There has been a rash of car break-ins in the area bounded by Eastchester Road, Webster Avenue, Coligini Avenue and North Avenue, ten since June 30th.

In one case, a vicitm captured a suspect trying car doors on Hilltop Avenue and police were able to give a description of a suspect. They identified a light-skinned male with a pony tail and wearing tan pants and a light colored shirt and a light colored back pack. Talk of the Sound has requested a copy of the surveillance video. Your correspondant was among the victims.

Lottery Larceny Leads to Back-pocket Blow Bust

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Daryl Callands, a homeless man and known drug offender, was arrested by New Rochelle Police after he was identified as the person who stole lottery tickets from the New Rochelle Prescription Center at 551 Main Street on July 31st.

Police observed Callands, a man matching the description of the suspect from the larceny, walking on North Avenue at about 11:00 p.m. on July 31st.

Bronx Plant Thieves Nabbed at New Rochelle Home Depot

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Police were flagged down by a citizen on July 30th. The person stated they saw two men throwing items over a fence at Home Depot at 55 Weyman Avenue in New Rochelle, NY. The citizen described one of the males.

Police found Hector Rivera loading plants into his vehicle by the gardening department side of the Home Depot. When asked if he had a receipt for the plants, Rivera stated he did not have a receipt.
