NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Police, while on patrol at about 10:30 pm on the night of July 29th, came across a subject congregating on the corner of North Avenue and Lockwood Avenue with other individuals. Police recognized Damond Sanford who officers had stopped on July 26th at about 7:00 pm in front of 17 May Street when they had observed Sanford along with other individuals standing beside an open bottle of Hennessy Cognac.

Colon-Craig was charged with Driving While Intoxicated - First Offense, a Class U Misdemeanor and Operating Motor Vehicle Impaired by Drugs - First Offense after New Rochelle Police responded to a report of an motor vehicle collision on Weaver Street near Nob Court at about 3:00 pm on July 28th.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Rethink the way a book appears – not the words, but the form itself – and you may get a sense of the unusual artworks that will be on display at The College of New Rochelle’s Castle Gallery this fall.

Pieces inspired by books, from The Center for Book Arts in Manhattan, will be displayed this autumn, starting Tuesday, September 8, in the Gallery at 29 Castle Place.

Called “Then and Now: Ten Years of Residences at the Center for Book Arts,” the exhibit will feature more than 120 biblio-inspired works from 60 artists.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The New Rochelle Police Department will host a 10-week Citizens Police Academy beginning on Sept. 16, officials announced.

The course allows citizens to go through some of the same training as police officers and learn about the job and what officers experience on the street.

Classes will be held at the department every Wednesday evening, from 6:30 p.m. to- 9 p.m. For more information, contact the Training Unit at (914) 654-2323.

Empire Center Wins in MTA Fight

NEW YORK, NY --The state Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Empire Center for Public Policy have reached an out-of-court settlement in which the MTA acknowledges its failure to respond “in a timely manner” to the Center’s Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request.

The MTA agreed to pay the legal costs and fees incurred by the Empire Center when the Center sued the agency to obtain 2014 payroll records. The payroll data are posted and updated annually at SeeThroughNY.net, the Empire Center’s transparency website.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Mental Health First Aid is a public education program that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common supports. This 8-hour course uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to offer initial help in a mental health crisis and connect persons to the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
