NEW YORK, NY --The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance kicked off the back to school shopping season today by reminding New Yorkers that qualifying clothing and footwear purchases are exempt from New York sales tax year-round. While many states offer "sales tax holidays" leading up to the school year, New York has a constant exemption from the State's 4% sales tax on items of clothing and footwear sold for less than $110.

NEW YORK, NY --Governor Cuomo announced the State Police will conduct a week-long enforcement initiative to crack down on speeding and aggressive drivers across the state. The Speed Week campaign runs today through August 11. 

“Speeding and reckless driving is unsafe and the cause of far too many avoidable tragedies,” Governor Cuomo said. “I urge all New Yorkers to drive responsibly, stay within the speed limit and join us in helping to keep our roads safe for motorists, passengers and pedestrians alike.”

Westchester Children’s Association Releases 2015 New Rochelle Community Snapshot

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The Westchester Children’s Association has released its 2015 New Rochelle Community Snapshot.

Among the findings:

  • The New Rochelle Public School District saw improvements in its Mathematics proficiency rates for both third and eighth grade. On the English Language Arts (ELA) exams, however, third graders performed slightly worse than the previous year’s cohort, while the eighth grade ELA proficiency rate stayed the same.

iPhone Stolen at Elementary School: New Rochelle Police responded to a report of a larceny at the Jefferson Elementary School at 131 Weyman Avenue on July 30th.

Complainant stated that between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. her iPhone 6 was stolen out of her pursue which she had left on the front desk of the main entrance. She believes a fellow employee may have taken the phone. Seven co-workers were interviewed and all denied taking the phone.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Scott Yandrasevich, 51, of 11 Abbey Lane, Danbury, Connecticut, was sentenced today to an indeterminate term of 1 to 3 years in prison on his November 2014 guilty plea to one count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a class “D” Felony, and two counts of Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree, class “E” Felonies.
