NEW ROCHELLE, NY --A number of free and engaging programs for infants, toddlers and preschool children are being offered at the Main New Rochelle Public Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library (HCL) this fall. Participation is drop-in, on a first-come, first-served basis.  The programs are made possible by the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library and the Partnership for the Huguenot Children’s Library.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The 100th Annual Open Juried Exhibition of the New Rochelle Art Association will be held at the New Rochelle Public Library from Sunday, September 20th through Saturday, October 24th.  Receiving will be on Saturday, September 19th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, except sculpture which is 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, with pick-up of declined sculpture at 1:00 pm.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Free sessions of easy yoga to help reduce stress and relieve tension are offered during Monday and Wednesday lunch hours at the New Rochelle Public Library, beginning Wednesday, September 9th.  Monday sessions are held for 30 minutes, from 12:15 - 12:45 pm, and Wednesday sessions are 45 minutes in length, from 1:00 pm – 1:45 pm. Sessions do not take place on holidays when the library is closed and there will be no session on September 16th.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Both the Main Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library will be closed on Labor Day weekend, Saturday, September 5th through Monday, September 7th. 

Both libraries will resume regular hours on Saturday, September 12th. The autumn hours are as follows: 

Main Library:

Monday- 9:00 am to 8:00 pm

Tuesday- 9:00 am to 8:00 pm

Wednesday- 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Thursday- 9:00 am to 8:00 pm

Friday- 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Saturday- 9:00 am to 5:00 pm 

Sunday- 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The New Rochelle Public Library in conjunction with WEBS Career and Educational Counseling Service is once again offering a free eight-week career counseling seminar for adults this winter called “Managing Your Career in Changing Times”.

The nineteen-hour workshop consists of an orientation session on the evening of September 15th or 29th, eight group sessions on Tuesday evenings beginning October 6th, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, and one individual session with a career counselor.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --On Friday, September 16th, from 9:30 am – 11:00 am, the New Rochelle League of Women Voters’ first Coffee and Conversation program for the 2015-2016 series will feature Professor Jeanne Zaino, who will speak about the upcoming presidential election and how the polarization of the parties is 

affecting it.  The public is welcome to attend the free program.

WHITE PLAINS, NY --Governor Cuomo announced a new state effort to educate bar owners, security, and staff of licensed establishments about new security features included on driver licenses, permits, and ID cards issued by the state. A new electronic brochure will be distributed to thousands of bar owners across the state that provides a description of the advanced security features in these forms of identification to make it easier for owners and staff at establishments with liquor licenses to authenticate them and identify fake IDs.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Idella Whitten Spann transitioned into eternal life on Thursday, July 23, 2015, in New Rochelle, NY, at age 83. A native Charlestonian, she was married to the late McKeever Spann, Sr., and was the daughter of the late Benjamin J. Whitten and Hattie Whitten. She was a retired supervisor at The Citadel in Charleston. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Ebenezer AME Church, 44 Nassau Street in Charleston, The Rev. Dr. William Swinton, Jr., officiating.
