NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Iona College will host an open house for Learning In Retirement at Iona College (LIRIC) on Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 2 pm – 4 pm at Spellman Hall, 715 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. The program begins promptly at 2 pm and refreshments will be served afterwards. Parking is available in the Campus Parking Garage. The fall semester runs from October 5, thru December 5, 2015.

NEW YORK, NY --New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Acting Commissioner Marc Gerstman and State Department of Health (DOH) Commissioner Howard Zucker, M.D., J.D. today issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the Long Island and New York City Metro regions of New York State for Monday, August 17, 2015.

            The pollutant of concern is: Ozone

            The advisory will be in effect: 11 a.m. through 11 p.m.

Hamilton, Hawkins Join Men's Soccer Coaching Staff

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Iona College men’s soccer head coach Fernando Barboto announced the hiring of James Hamilton and Scott Hawkins as new assistant coaches.

Hamilton previously served as associate head coach at Dominican College in New York, where he helped the coach with planning and running training. In addition, his responsibilities included implementing seasonal conditioning programs, and assisting with game day team selection.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The Downtown New Rochelle BID will launch a new program, BID 3rd Wednesdays: PopRocs @ Memorial Plaza, starting Wednesday, August 19th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with Downtown Dog Days of Summer.

Initiated by the City of New Rochelle and the Downtown BID, and produced with PopRocs USA, 3rdWedensdays will introduce pop-up events in the downtown to build on the increasingly popular and growing roster of downtown activities such as the BID Farmers Market, Family Day Programs, Dance Concerts and Sidewalk Sales.

WHITE PLAINS, NY --Gerard Gioia, Ph.D. Chief of Pediatric Neuropsychology at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and co-author of the CDC’s HEADS UP Concussions in Youth Sports initiative will be one of the featured speakers at an upcoming concussion conference hosted by Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino.  Part of Astorino’s “Safer Sports” initiative and focused on high school sports, the conference is open to the public at no charge, and parents, coaches, trainers, high school athletes and teachers are encouraged to attend.

NEW YORK, NY --The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks) and the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference encourage New Yorkers to vote for The Appalachian National Scenic Trail (A.T.) in REI’s Every Trail Connects campaign, which kicked off today and will invest a total of $500,000 in trail projects around the country. The New York portion of the 2,185-mile public footpath is one of 10 hiking paths featured in the campaign.
