NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Yankees legend Mariano Rivera was on hand as Dr. Dorothy Escribano, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at The College of New Rochelle announced today the recipient of the second Mariano and Clara Rivera Scholarship at the College. Gianella Solorzano, a resident of New Rochelle and a graduate of New Rochelle High School, was selected to receive the scholarship for being a highly motivated woman with a strong academic record who committed to important outreach work for her school community and is actively involved in her church.

The second Mariano and Clara Rivera Scholarship at The College of New Rochelle was awarded to Gianella Solorzano of New Rochelle. NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College men’s soccer program defeated the Yale Bulldogs 2-1 in non-conference at Mazzella Field late Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Gaels improved on their streak of allowing less than two goals in all but one game this season.

The Marron and Gold’s offense was all supplied by the freshman Aristotle Seferlis. The North Bergen, NJ native celebrated his birthday but netting two goals within three minutes of each other at the start of the second half.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College men's water polo team opened CWPA Northern Division play with a 17-12 defeat to St. Francis Brooklyn at the Hynes Center. The Terriers - receiving votes and just outside the top 20 in the CWPA national poll used a strong third quarter to pull away from the Gaels.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --  The Monroe College men's soccer team pushed its unblemished record to 6-0-1 on the season with a convincing, 9-0 blanking of Globe Tech in New Rochelle on Thursday afternoon.  Jordan Kinoshi and Jamie Hinchliffe scored two goals apiece.  The game was orginally slated to be played in Brooklyn, but a last second venue change forced the game to be played in New Rochelle.

Volleyball Defeats Nassau in Four Sets

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --  The Monroe College volleyball improved to 21-0 with a four set win over Nassau Community College on Tuesday night in Garden City, New York.  The Mustangs lost the first set, 25-21, but rebounded to take the next three sets, 25-19. 25-8 and 25-11.  The first set loss was just the third set the team has dropped all season long.

Women's Tennis Swept by Sarah Lawrence

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle Women's Tennis team fell to 0-3 on the season after dropping a match to Sarah Lawrence College 9-0, in a non-conference match at Andrews Courts on Wednesday. The victory is the Gryphons' fifth in a row.

SLC improves to 21-2-1 all-time against CNR, and the Gryphons have not lost to the Blue Angels since 2001.

The teams started with singles matches, where Sarah Lawrence won all six matches.  Then in doubles play, SLC won 2 of the 3 matches by an 8-0 shutout.  The 1st doubles match was won by the Gryphons 8-1.
