Council Member Shari Rackman, the incumbent, will debate Liz Fried, the challenger, in the New Rochelle Democratic Party for the District 6 City Council seat on Thursday, September 3rd.

The debate will air on radio station WVOX 1460 AM during The Hometown Hour (11:00 am -12:00 pm) with Howard Sturman of the Hometown Media Group. Sturman will moderate the debate.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- There will be a community meeting Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the New Rochelle City Council Chambers at City Hall located at 515 North Avenue.

Information will be provided on the traffic and parking impact of the emergency relocation of the Daniel Webster Elementary School to the Holy Family School scheduled to begin on Wednesday September 9th.   All those interested are encouraged to attend.

NEW YORK, NY -- Following a busy summer, Brooklyn-based rockers A Deer A Horse are gearing up to embark on a slew of tri-state tour dates. After releasing the Patience EP back in 2013, A Deer A Horse returned this year with a pair of singles, “Fighter” and “Gunpoint.”

“Gunpoint” debuted with Impose Magazine who said the band, “shatters the prehistoric notions of living, demanding something present and conscious in the now, matching oppressive forces with their own force of stern guitars and rhythms to break down the walls of any and all obstacles in front of them.”

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --In conjunction with the New Rochelle Arts fest, the New Rochelle Public Library will host Hitler’s Art Thief, an illustrated presentation by Susan Ronald, on Saturday, September 26 at 4:00 pm, in the Ossie Davis Theater. A reception and book-signing will follow the free presentation.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Over the summer, residents brought thousands of gently used books to the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library, whose dedicated volunteers have processed the donations and now have them ready to sell -- all at very affordable prices. On Friday, September 11th and Saturday, September 12th, from 9:00 am -- 3:00 pm, the public may select from a wide range of hardcover and paperback books, CDs, dvds, and more, when the Friends of NRPL’s conduct their monthly Big Book Sale.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Calpulli Mexican Dance Company (Calpulli Danza Mexicana) presented a colorful program on August 22nd, at 4:00 pm, in the Ruby Dee Park at Library Green, adjacent to the Ossie Davis Theater of the New Rochelle Public Library. Celebrating the diverse regions of Mexico, the acclaimed Troupe presented a number of regional dances, in traditional costumes, to a crowd of over 200 people.

Two action-packed shows will be held on the park’s Music Tower Stage at 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., with a “meet and greet” between shows at 3:30 p.m.

NYS Tax Department Reminds Parents and College Students of Sales Tax Exemption as Back to School Shopping Begins

NEW YORK, NY --The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance kicked off the back to school shopping season today by reminding New Yorkers that qualifying clothing and footwear purchases are exempt from New York sales tax year-round. While many states offer "sales tax holidays" leading up to the school year, New York has a constant exemption from the State's 4% sales tax on items of clothing and footwear sold for less than $110.
