Libraries Closing Sunday October 11 and Monday October 12

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Public Library and Huguenot Children’s Library will be closed on Sunday, October 11th and Monday, October 12th, in observance of Columbus Day. 

The fall hours for the Main Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library are as follows:

Main Library:

Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays: 9:00 am – 8:00 pm

Wednesdays: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Fridays and Saturdays: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Sundays: 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Huguenot Children’s Library:

Mondays and Thursdays: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Over the summer, residents brought thousands of gently used books to the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library, whose dedicated volunteers have processed the donations and now have them ready to sell -- all at very affordable prices. On Friday, October 2nd and Saturday, October 3rd, from 9:00 am -- 3:00 pm, the public may select from a wide range of hardcover and paperback books, CDs, dvds, and more, when the Friends of NRPL conduct their monthly Big Book Sale in the lobby of eth main library.

PELHAM, NY -- On Tuesday, October 6th at 7:30 p.m. The Picture House Regional Film Center (TPH) will show an advance screening of the new film Truth followed by a discussion and Q&A with the film’s director James Vanderbilt and producer Brad Fischer. One of the most buzzed about films of the fall season, the film was selected to be screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled to be released nationwide on October 16th.

NEW YORK, NY -- New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli said the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s controversial, and seemingly counterintuitive, experiment to reduce exposed trash and rats in subway stations by getting rid of trash receptacles showed little evidence of success, according to an audit released by his office today.

United Water Westchester will Transition to Monthly Billing

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --  In order to provide customers with more frequent and timely information about their water usage, United Water Westchester is transitioning customers in eight communities from quarterly billing to monthly billing.  Customers will receive their first monthly bill over the next several weeks. Monthly billing allows customers to budget more efficiently, monitor water consumption and detect leaks in their household plumbing sooner. Detecting leaks and reducing usage saves water and money.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Gussie Buccione, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, died on September 21, 2015. She was 93.

Gussie was born on May 23, 1922 in New Rochelle to the late Frank and Serafina Amorello. She was a communicant of Holy Name Church and a member of its Catholic Sodality.

She was predeceased by her husband Vincent F. Buccione who died on September 14, 1990. She is survived by her daughters Barbara French and Jean Battaglia and her son Frank Buccione; 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

The PERF Board selected New Rochelle Police Commissioner Patrick Carroll as the recipient of the 2015 PERF Leadership Award. Commissioner Carroll was presented with the award at PERF’s Annual Meeting in Phoenix.

 

Commissioner Carroll was a member of the NYPD for 28 years, retiring as an inspector. In 1993 he was selected to be the commissioner of the New Rochelle Police Department, a role he has now held for 22 years.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced that Brendan Cronin, 29, of 60 Ball Avenue, Yonkers New York pled guilty today to the entire indictment that charged him with two counts of Attempted Murder, class “B” Felonies, two counts of Assault in the First Degree, class “B” Felonies and one count of Driving While Intoxicated, a class “A” Misdemeanor.
