Strong Defensive Effort Keys Upset of #15 Globe Tech, 35-14

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College football team improved to 2-2 on the season, with a 35-14 upset of #15 Globe Tech on Saturday in New Rochelle.  The strong play of the defense and the Mustangs' rushing attack, both keyed the victory.  Donte Carter rushed for 147 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  Jalen Jones added 44 yards and a score.

Women's Cross Country Places Third at NJIT Highlander Run

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College women's cross country team ran to a third-place finish at the NJIT Highlander Invitational in New Jersey.  Despite running through a storm, Susan Ejore won the meet with a blistering time of 17:26.42 in the 5K, which is a new school and course record.  The time was a personal best for the Kenyan.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College men's cross country team ran to a fifth-place finish at the NJIT HIghlander Invitational from Branch Brook Park in New Jersey on Saturday.  Sophomore Mpho Makafone paced the team in the 8K run with an 8th place finish.

Makafone's 8th place time was 26:47.74.  Finishing several spots behind was Kipkoech Collins, who crossed at 27:29.93, a personal best and good for 17th-place.  After that Tevin Aitken was at 29:01, Jaymes Dennison came in at 30:14.41, Qasim Ray at 31:04.93, Kamar Harris in 31:11.15.

Rider Tops Iona Men's Soccer, 2-1

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College men’s soccer team suffered their first conference loss of the season Saturday afternoon, falling at home to the Rider Broncs, 2-1.  The Gaels controlled the tempo for the majority of the match, however two early goals from Rider proved enough to hold off the Maroon and Gold.

Florian Valot got the Broncs on the board first, knocking home a penalty kick shot in the 16th minute.  It was Rider’s first goal of the conference season after being shutout their first two league contests, and the fourth overall for the senior goal scorer.

NEW YORK, NY --Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today issued a consumer alert to help consumers avoid potential ticket scams ahead of the New York Mets and New York Yankees both appearing in the Major League Baseball playoffs. The Mets will be in the playoffs for the first time since 2006 and the Yankees are appearing in the playoffs for the first time since 2012. The expected demand for tickets will make these playoff games a prime target for scammers.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Madeline A. Volpe, 66, of New Rochelle, NY, passed away on October 2, 2015 at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, NY where she was originally from. Madeline was the owner of the pet grooming salon "Paws on Fifth" in Pelham, NY.

She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Julia Volpe. Madeline is survived by her brother, Joseph and his wife Karen and was a loving aunt to their children, Joseph Jr., Sophia and John Paul. She is also survived by her uncle Kenneth Volpe and his wife Maria and many loving cousins and friends.
