NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- James W. Lynch, longtime resident of New Rochelle passed away at home with his family around him on September 28, 2015, at the age of 85. Born in Brooklyn to James and Helen Henderson Lynch. He was predeceased by sisters Muriel Lynch, Helen McWilliams, and brothers Dr. Richard Lynch, Dr. William Lynch and Brian Lynch.

He served his country in combat (U.S.M.C., 1st Division) during the Korean War from 1950-1953 earning the rank of Sergeant. After the war, he attended St. John's University, graduating in 1958 with a B.A. in Accounting.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- As Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off this week, Shear Pleasure Hair Design – the New Rochelle salon that has been serving Westchester County for three decades – announces it will host its first annual Cut-for-the-Cure. On Sunday, October 11, Shear Pleasure will offer $25 hair cuts from 10am-3pm with all proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase a raffle ticket featuring the chance to win one of several gift baskets.

Homeless Veteran Population in Westchester at Functional Zero

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino today announced that the population of homeless veterans in the county was at “functional zero” meaning there are no known homeless veterans living on the streets in Westchester. Since the Westchester Patriot Housing Initiative was launched in August of 2013 with the goal of ending homelessness among veterans by the end of 2015, permanent housing has been secured for 329 previously homeless veterans.  Permanent housing is also being worked on for the eight veterans who are currently living in temporary shelters.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Due to the weather, New Rochelle Youth Bureau has moved today’s event to the Doyle Center (94 Davis Ave).

The New Rochelle Youth Bureau is hosting their first BBQ for current members on Thursday, October 1st at 4pm. Youth Bureau commissioners, board members, staff, and current youth members are all expected to attend. Executive Director Kelly Johnson programmed the event as part of Youth Staff Development Day, a day to celebrate and bring together today’s youth.

New Rochelle High School Evacuated Following Bomb Threat

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Joseph Starvaggi, Assistant Principal at New Rochelle High School, announced this afternoon that the school had received a bomb threat which lead to an evacuation of the building.

“A secretary received a phone call from a male who stated ‘School got bomb”, said Starvaggi. “We evacuated and the police gave us clearance to return after they did a walk-through.”
