Iona WXC Competes At Wisconsin Invite

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College women's cross country team completed action at the 2015 Wisconsin Adidas Invitational Friday afternoon at the Thomas Zimmer XC Course. Senior Tara Jameson was the Gaels' top performer in 116th place, completing the 6,000-meter course in 21:09.6.

Jameson was followed by Maroon & Gold senior Melissa Hawtin (148th, 21:25.4), freshman Julia Kearley (183rd, 21:44.7), and sophomores Natalie Holder (214th, 22:09.8) and Rachel Garn (224th, 22:22.8) as the team's five scorers.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The No. 5 Iona College men's cross country team finished fifth overall at the 2015 Wisconsin Adidas Invitational Friday afternoon at the Thomas Zimmer XC Course. The Gaels finished behind No. 2 Syracuse, No. 9 BYU, No. 8 Michigan, and No. 7 Virginia in what has become one the sport's premiere regular season races.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College men’s soccer team found their offensive footing Wednesday afternoon, defeating the previously MAAC unbeaten Marist Red Foxes at Mazzella Field, 5-2.  Freshman Daniel Huertas scored two goals and recorded one assist, and sophomore Marcos Nunez finished the game with three assists and a goal of his own.

Fast Moving Fire Guts House in New Rochelle, 3 Firefighters Injured

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle firefighters battled a fast-moving, smoky structure fire on Thursday at a 3 story house on Wood Place in New Rochelle today. Smoke blanketed the neighborhood between French Ridge and Lincoln Avenue closing off traffic in the area for about two hours.

The fire, which began about noon Thursday, was caused by contractors removing paint on the first floor, according to New Rochelle Fire Chief Louis DiMeglio. Two painters sat on the curb across the street, looking around nervously, as fire engulfed the house.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The League of Women Voters of New Rochelle announces two Candidate Forums before the Nov. 3 election: one on Monday, October 19 for candidates for Mayor and City Council and another on Monday, October 26 for county legislators.  Both forums will be held in the New Rochelle City Council Chamber at City Hall, 515 North Avenue. The forums will be recorded and replayed repeatedly the days before the election on Cablevision Channel 75 and Verizon Channel 28. An on-demand link will also be available.
