Cohen-the menswear "institution" located at 525 Main Street, in Downtown New Rochelle, NY- holds the distinction of being one of the oldest businesses in New York State to be owned and operated by a single family. Israel Benjamin Cohen, an immigrant from Lithuania, established his first clothing store in Mamaroneck in 1890. One hundred and twenty five years later, the Cohens continue to carry on the family tradition in retail, only this year, Westchester residents are experiencing something new-a "reinvented" family business-Cohens Consignment.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- An Afternoon with Irving: The Words and Music of Irving Berlin will be performed by New York Cabaret Unlimited, on Sunday, October 25th, from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm, in the Ossie Davis Theater of the New Rochelle Public Library. The popular vocal group’s staged performance will feature the songs of Irving Berlin from The Great American Songbook. “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “Cheek to Cheek,” “Putting on the Ritz,” and “Anything You Can Do” are just a few of the beloved hits the audience will be humming as they leave the great show.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- “Day of the Dead” (El Día de los Muertos,) a festive observance from Mexico that commemorates the return to earth of deceased family and friends each year, will again be celebrated at the New Rochelle Public Library  with an elaborate exhibit and free event. Beginning October 30, the library’s lobby will again be transformed as Calaveras y Diablitos, a group of local artists, create their ninth annual exhibit in the library’s lobby.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Free rabies vaccines are available for dogs, cats and ferrets owned by Westchester County residents on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the New Rochelle Humane Society, 70 Portman Road in New Rochelle. No appointment is needed. For more information, call the Humane Society at 914-632-2925.          

Cats and ferrets must be in carriers and dogs must be on a leash. Aggressive dogs must be muzzled. No examinations will be given.
