Monroe Men’s Cross Country Places 34th at Nationals

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College men's cross country team placed 34th out of 54 schools at the NJCAA Division I National Cross Country meet in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Saturday. Sophomore, Mpho Makofane was the standout runner for the Mustangs.

Makofaneclosed out his final NJCAA Collegiate CrossCountry race by earning Second Team All -American Award from the NJCAA.Makofane put up a quality time of 26:40.53 in the 8K race, placing him 40thin a field of 282 runners.

Monroe Women’s Cross Country Places 15th at Nationals

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College women's cross country team had a showing to be proud of at the NJCAA Division I National Cross Country meet in Fort Dodge, Iowa on Saturday as they set new team and individual marks.  The Mustangs placed 15th  overall for the first time in the college's history.  Also, as a fait accompli for what has been a remarkable season to date, a pair of Monroe runners each finished in the top 5, as Susan Ejore placed third and Nokuthula Dlamini was fifth.  This marked the first time in program history that a pair of runners placed in the top 5 at nationals.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Defending national champion Monroe College set the tone with a goal in the first 50 seconds of Tuesday’s match against Moraine Community College. 

And the Mustangs didn’t stop there. 

Seventh-seeded Monroe, playing its first game of the 2015 NJCAA Women’s Division I Soccer Championship, went on to record its 14th victory of the season 5-2 and set up Wednesday’s winner-take-all and advance-to the- semifinals game against Tyler Junior College.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A New Rochelle police officer came across a gruesome scene last Monday when he looked into a holding cell at police headquarters - a prisoner soaked in fresh blood. 

Santos Garcia, 41, was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center by paramedics after he was found in his cell covered in his own blood. The prisoner’s pants and shirt were soaked in fresh blood. There was more blood beneath him on the bed frame.

BRONX, NY -- Jewdyer Osborne, 40, considered himself one of the lucky ones. The Brooklyn social worker scratched off a winning ticket in 2013 and won a $1,000 a New York State Week for Life jackpot worth an estimated one million dollars.

Later this week he will appear in front of a judge at the Bronx County Criminal Court following allegations by a former girlfriend that he has engaged in stalking and harassment after she says she broke up with Osbourne.

ALBANY, NY -- At the request of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, the New York State Department of Public Service today announced it is investigating recent telephone network disruptions affecting 911 emergency service to more than 400,000 Verizon New York and Frontier Communications customers in the lower Hudson Valley, including portions of Sullivan, Putnam, Ulster and Westchester counties on Thursday, Nov. 12.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Lady Huguenots Sign National Letters of Intent: Congratulations to the three NRHS female student-athletes who signed their national letters of intent this week and will receive full athletic scholarships! They are Kayla Correa - Coppin State - Women's Basketball; Monae Cooper - Northeastern University - Track and Field; and Symone Darius - University of Alabama - Track and Field. On hand to celebrate were NRHS Principal Reggie Richardson, Director of Athletics Steve Young, coaches, families and friends.
