NEW YORK, NY -- Con Edison expects residential gas heating bills to be about four percent lower this winter compared to last year, due in part to lower costs of natural gas. The utility urges customers to save even more money with the company’s energy efficiency programs.

The average residential gas-heating bill from November to March (based on monthly usage of 170 therms) is expected to be approximately $206 per month, down from $215 last year. The calculation assumes normal weather in both years.

Con Edison’s Billion-Dollar Storm Upgrades to Power New York Through Major Storms

NEW YORK, NY -- Three years after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the Northeast, Con Edison continues to reinforce its overhead and underground energy delivery systems with multiple layers of storm protections.

Since initiating a four-year, $1 billion storm-hardening Fortifying the Future

program, Con Edison has averted more than 65,000 customer outages. This year approximately $307 million has been invested to help reduce storm-related customer outages in New York City and Westchester County.

An overhead line can extend several miles in length. The “smart switch” identifies and isolates a single problem area along the line, instead of curtailing service on the entire length of an overhead line section. This translates into fewer homes and businesses losing power during major storms. Con Edison has installed more than 330 smart switches throughout its overhead system, as well as 3,300 electrical devices that isolate and clear temporary faults.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- For award-winning Spanish author José Ovejero, the “real‘’ Spain has been quite different from the image it has projected to the outside world in the 40 years since the death of Francisco Franco in 1975. According to Ovejero, who has lived abroad for many years serving the European Union, that image of a post-Franco democratic and modern Spain is fiction.  On Thursday, November 5, The College of New Rochelle will host a talk by Ovejero on “Spanish Fictions” – the author’s experiences and reflections on living in the “real” Spain since his return home in 2013.
