NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College men's basketball team extended its winning streak to six games on Thursday, with an 85-67 victory over Mercer County College in a game played in West Windsor, New Jersey.  Four Mustangs finished in double-figures.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College men's and women's swimming and diving teams entered the two-day Loyola H2ounds Invitational on a roll, coming into the meet off back-to-back wins against Manhattan and Monmouth and with high expectations.

At the end of 40 events in Baltimore, the Gaels came away with a pair of wins against MAAC rival, Saint Peter's and losses to the Patriot League's Loyola Maryland and MAAC leader Marist.

Bozic Lowers Croatian Junior National 3k Indoor Mark In Boston

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Iona College women's indoor track freshman Kristina Bozic made an impressive indoor debut for the Maroon & Gold finishing in second place in the 3,000-meter event at the 2015-16 Boston University Season Opener at the Track & Tennis Center. Bozic was the lone women's performer representing the Gaels.

Bozic ran a time of 9:54.76, just over a second behind the race winner, Northeastern's Brook Wojeski. The time was a Croatian Junior National Record, lowering the mark of 10:01.01 set by Nikolina Hrelec in Vienna, Austria on Jan. 29, 2013.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team won its fifth straight contest on Saturday afternoon, topping the visiting College of New Rochelle, 86-55, in non-conference action at The Nest inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.  The Blue Angels saw their two-game winning streak come to an end to move to 4-7 overall, while Albertus climbs to 6-3.

NEW ROCHELLE – A 22-year-old man was arrested Nov. 16 for allegedly forcing his way into an ex-girlfriend’s apartment and fondling her.

Daniel Rijo Jr., whose address was not provided, was charged with burglary and forcible touching, according to a report from the New Rochelle Police Department.
Police allege Rijo touched the woman’s breasts and vagina without consent prior to Nov. 16.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce and the City of New Rochelle carried on a festive tradition this evening at Memorial Plaza in Downtown New Rochelle.

The Annual Lighting of the Christmas Tree and the Hanukkah Menorah was conducted by Bob Marrone, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Noam Bramson and religious leaders of the New Rochelle Community.

The New Rochelle tree is a 22-foot tall Norway Spruce.

Carols were sung by the Songcatchers.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle firefighters extracted a man from his vehicle after the car he was driving rolled over and pinned him inside.

Witnesses told Talk of the Sound that an elderly driver went into diabetic shock while driving northbound on North Avenue. The man passed out at the wheel. drove through the intersection at Eastchester Road, before striking an oncoming vehicle stopped at a red light. With the driver unconscious, the vehicle rolled up on the oncoming vehicle before flipping over.

Vehicle flipped over on North Avenue, pinning driver inside.
