NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College men's basketball team celebrated Thanksgiving weekend by picking up a pair of wins at the Hagerstown Invitational in Hagerstown, Maryland.  On Friday, the team defeated the hosts, Hagerstown CC, 81-67 and on the next day, prevailed over Alleghany College, 68-59.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College women's basketball team came within seconds of earning its second win of the season in Rhode Island, on Sunday, but a buzzer-beating three pointer from the Knights sent the game into overtime, where the Mustangs fall, 70-67.  Samantha Hines posted a double-double in the loss.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County is partnering with Latino U College Access to help first-generation Hispanic students navigate the complex process of applying for state and federal financial aid for college. The effort is designed to help Hispanic students and their families overcome language and financial barriers to attending college.

ALBANY, NY -- Governor Cuomo nominated Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore to serve as the next Chief Judge of the New York State Court of Appeals – New York State’s highest court – and head of the judiciary branch. In addition to her nearly 10-year tenure as District Attorney, DiFiore has years of experience as both a prosecutor and judge, with an extensive background in judicial and legal reform. As District Attorney she also manages an office of more than 230 people.

Another Illegal Immigrant from Guatemala Arrested for Repeatedly Raping a Child in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Aisar Valiente, 39, has been charged with Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, a Class B Violent Felony. If convicted, Valiente faces 5 to 25 years in prison.

Valiente was arrested on November 20th and is being held at the Westchester County Jail on $500,000 bail. He appeared in New Rochelle City Court on Monday.

Valiente was charged with a course of sexual conduct dating back three years although police records indicate that the conduct went back to 2010 when the victim was 7 years old. She is 12 years old today.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino today announced an agreement with the Department of Justice that addresses issues raised regarding conditions of confinement at the county’s jail and penitentiary complex that arose during the administration of former County Executive Andrew Spano. The agreement calls for a three-year review of the policies and practices that have been instituted by the Astorino administration over the past six years and avoids the need for a consent decree or other formal legal proceedings.

Students raise $3,100 for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Barnard Early Childhood Center Awash in Red and Purple! Students have been learning about money, counting, and sorting while raising money for Pennies for Patients, a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in memory of beloved TA, Yolanda Blanco. Students brought in contributions and were invited to attach a paper penny to a poster of a giant jar. When the collecting was over, students raised $3,100. Principal Joanna Genovese made the grand announcement in front of Ms. Blanco's family and Barnard staff.
