Trinity Tops CNR in Tournament Opener

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle Women's Basketball team fell to Trinity College (CT) in the opening game of the Dr. Betty Shabazz Basketball Tournament held at Medgar Evers College on Saturday afternoon.  After coming out of halftime down by only 9 points, CNR was outscored 44-19 in the second half which resulted in an 80-46 loss.  CNR now sits at 2-6 on the season while Trinity remains unbeaten at 3-0.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Despite jumping out to a 14-11 lead after one quarter, the College of New Rochelle Womens Basketball team could not hold off the visiting Panthers of Old Westbury.  A dominant 21-9 2nd quarter margin by Old Westbury proved to be the difference as the Panthers left New Rochelle with a 68-54 win.  CNR falls to 2-5 on the season while Old Westbury improves to 2-1.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle swim team lost a tri-meet to the College of Mount Saint Vincent and St Joseph's College - Brooklyn on Monday night in the Aquatic Center. 

The team fell to Bears 119-67 and also dropped the contest to CMSV 145-59.

Senior Claudia Benitez (White Plains, NY) continued her strong season, narrowly missing a school record in the 200yd breaststroke while finishing 2nd in the event.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle Womens Basketball team snapped a four game skid over the weekend, when it defeated Davis College 82-67 in both teams HVIAC conference opener. The Blue Angels improve to 2-4 while Davis falls to 3-4.

CNR was led by sophomore Hannal Cambel (Houston, TX) who scored a career-high 26 points, including eight buckets from downtown to lead CNR to the win.  Senior Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, NJ) was next with 15 points and 15 boards, while senior Janasha King (Jersey City, NJ) contributed 14 points.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Lucy Moscone, a longtime resident of New Rochelle died on November 28, 2015. She was 93.

Lucy was born on October 30, 1922 in The Bronx to the late Joseph and Angelina (Goldine) Volante.

She worked for many years at Klein's Department Store in Yonkers.

She was predeceased by her husband Mario who died in May of 1982. She is survived by her children: Allen Moscone, Neil (Sharon) Moscone, Linda (Tommy) Arbitrio; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son George.

City of New Rochelle Changes Streetlights to LED

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Beginning this week, New Rochelle’s 7,000 streetlights will be changed to LED bulbs. To signify the start of the project, Mayor Noam Bramson, City Manager Chuck Strome and were joined by representatives from Lumen Light Solutions to install a light at the corner of Hamilton and North Avenues. The switch to LED will save the City over 2,777,551.66 kwh annually, translating to $639,000 per year.

Mayor Noam Bramson hands off a new LED lighting fixture for installation outside City Hall. Over the next six months, the City will replace all 7,000 streetlights with LED bulbs.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --  History was made at Mohegan Sun Arena early Sunday afternoon as senior Joy Adams became the all-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference leader in rebounds.  The two-time All-MAAC First Team member pulled down 11 boards, placing her atop the conference’s all-time boarding list with 1,233 rebounds thus far in her Iona College career.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Opera’s 30th anniversary season culminates with a production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors. In keeping with the Company’s mission of exposing opera the next generation of opera lovers, New Rochelle Opera is collaborating with New Rochelle High School’s PAVE program for this holiday presentation. The production will be staged by Company co-founder and artistic director Camille Coppola, with musical direction by Derrick James and choreography by Christine Coleman.
