NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Kindergarteners Jordan Dawes (left), of White Plains, and Marco Nicchia, of New Rochelle, exchange tickets for an assortment of prizes with upperclassmen guides Tom McSorley (wearing beard), of Harrison, and Dylan Burak, of Scarsdale, during the Happy Birthday Jesus celebration at Iona Preparatory’s Lower School. All Iona Prep students took part in this “carnival of Christmas.” The eighth-graders, with help from Upper School Campus Ministers, ran the Nativity-themed game stations.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino visited Archbishop Stepinac High School on Friday to congratulate the varsity football team with a proclamation, declaring Archbishop Stepinac Football Day throughout Westchester County. Stepinac completed an undefeated season by winning the 2015 Catholic High School Athletic Association New York State championship, defeating St. Francis of Buffalo 42-28.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Congressman Eliot L. Engel (D-NY), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, is pleased to announce that following his formal request, the Small Business Association (SBA) will be opening a new Disaster Loan Outreach Center (DLOC) in Westchester County to help New Yorkers affected by Superstorm Sandy request low-interest disaster loans. The SBA had previously announced the opening of 11 new centers throughout the New York City region, none of which were located in Westchester County.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino today joined six members of the bi-partisan coalition of legislators to sign his $1.8 billion budget for 2016 that maintains the two goals he established at the start of the negotiations: no increase in the tax levy and no raiding of the “rainy day” fund to pay for operational expenses.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College men's basketball team erased a 12-point second half deficit to force overtime but could not overcome Rhode Island in a 79-74 defeat in non-conference action at the Ryan Center. Sophomore guard Deyshonee Much had a career-high 26 points to lead the Gaels including the game-tying three-pointer with 8.8 seconds in regulation to force the extra frame.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Senior Jasmine Brandon (Jersey City, NJ) poured in a game-high 21 points and pulled down 12 boards, but it wasn't enough as Merchant Marine's balanced attack resulted in a 60-40 setback for the College of New Rochelle in non-conference women's basketball action Wednesday night.  All 10 players who saw time found their way into the scoring column for the Mariners, who climb to 5-4 overall on the season. CNR falls to 6-8.
