Jaspers Late Surge Sinks The Gaels, 63-56

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Iona came on the short-end of the stick Monday afternoon, falling to the Manhattan Jaspers at Draddy Gymnasium, 63-56.  The Gaels squandered an 11 point lead, and missed nine of their final 10 shots, as a result they fall to 10-9 overall, and 6-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.

The fourth quarter was the downfall for the Maroon & Gold.  The Jaspers outscored the Gaels 23-7 in the final frame, using an Iona five minute scoreless drought to catapult them to the come-from-behind win.

NEW YORK, NY -- The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance announced that today – January 19 – the income tax filing season is officially open. The Tax Department reminds New Yorkers that e-filing is the most secure way to file tax returns. Those due a refund will receive it up to twice as fast compared with those who file on paper.

NEW YORK, NY -- Business electric customers gave Con Edison the best satisfaction score among large utilities in the East, rating the company high in several important categories, according to a survey.

Con Edison had the highest customer satisfaction score among 11 utilities in its category, according to J.D. Power. The rankings were based on: reliability, corporate citizenship, price, billing and payment, communications, and customer service.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Family Services of Westchester, Inc. (FSW) is delighted to announce that Naomi Kaplan, longtime resident of Westchester County, has pledged a donation of $250,000 over five years to support our Veterans Outreach and Support Program.  The program, which is housed at FSW’s Lanza Family Center for All Ages in White Plains, will now be known as the Naomi Kaplan Veterans Outreach and Support Program.  This is fitting, not only because of this pledge of support but because Mrs. Kaplan was instrumental in launching FSW’s initial efforts to serve veterans in Westchester County.

NEW YORK, NY -- Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced settlements with two major national retailers, Big Lots Stores and Marshalls, to “Ban the Box” on initial employment applications at their Buffalo stores.  The settlement will ensure that both companies comply with the local Buffalo law that prohibits employers from inquiring into criminal history on initial employment applications.  In addition to satisfying the requirements of the local ordinance, both companies have taken the additional step of removing such inquiries from applications to any store in New York State.
