Kirui Shines For #ICTF At MAAC Championships

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- On Sunday, Feb. 21, the Iona College men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at New Balance Armory. The men’s team took home fourth place with 85 points, and the women’s team placed sixth with 29 points.

The men’s team was led by freshman Gilbert Kirui, who took home first in the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter run. Kirui’s time of 8:17.37 in the 3k was a personal best, and the rookie made history in 5k, setting a new MAAC Indoor Championship record with a time of 14:21.31.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College women’s basketball team dominated the first quarter, and then battled their way to a 64-50 win over the visiting Saint Peter’s Peacocks. 

The Gaels ended the opening frame on an 18-0 run, taking a 20-6 into the second period; from there the Maroon & Gold would have to battle the rest of the way, trudging through the Peacock’s superior efforts in both shooting percentage and rebounding.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Iona College alumnus and Nasdaq Stock Market CEO Robert Greifeld ’79 will be this year’s keynote speaker at the 72nd annual undergraduate commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 21, in the Theater at Madison Square Garden.

“As our graduates transition from students to alumni, it is motivating to have successful leaders of business share their wisdom and experiences,” said Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D., president of Iona College. “We are inspired by Mr. Greifeld’s many accomplishments and grateful for his willingness to share his story with his fellow Iona alumni.”

The College of New Rochelle Receives $1.062 Million Grant Through State Higher Ed Program

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle (CNR) has been awarded a $1.062 million grant from the New York State Higher Education Capital Matching Grant Program (HECap) that will allow for upgrades to its science programs and facilities.

CNR was one of 29 applicants – out of 62 submissions – to receive funding through the program, which awards matching capital grants for projects that would enhance academic programmatic offerings.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle Castle Gallery presents selections from the College’s collection of the works of noted photographer Gordon Parks and his daughter Toni Parks. The exhibit, which will run from Saturday February 20 through Sunday, June 12, honors Black History Month and Women’s History Month. The joint exhibit touches on issues that Gordon and Toni Parks address in their black and white, and color prints, which collectively span over fifty years.

County Golf Courses Scheduled to Open March 16

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The six Westchester County-owned golf courses are scheduled to open for the season on Wednesday, March 16, weather and conditions permitting.

Tee time reservations may be made online. Reservations may also be made by calling the individual courses. Walk up reservations will also be accepted at the courses. Reservations via the automated telephone line will no longer be accepted.

NEW YORK, NY -- Con Edison is warning customers not to fall for scams in which a caller threatens a service turnoff unless the customer purchases a pre-paid card or arranges for a transfer via MoneyGram to pay a bill.

These callers are not from Con Edison and Con Edison does not accept payments of electric or gas bills by pre-paid debit cards, or by MoneyGram or similar transfers.
