Major Water Main Break Disrupts Service Throughout New Rochelle and Parts of Pelham

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A major water main break has interrupted water service throughout New Rochelle and parts of Pelham.

A 16-inch water main broke under Cedar Street near the Radisson Hotel, creating a pool of water nearly a foot deep. Customers throughout the city have reported no water or low pressure with discolored water.

"Suez is investigating calls about low water pressure and no water in sections of New Rochelle, said Suez Water spokesperson Deb Rizzi. "Crews will work to make any necessary repairs as quickly and safely as possible in harsh weather conditions."

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- An early morning, two-alarm apartment fire in downtown New Rochelle left 5 injured and dozens seeking temporary shelter.

New Rochelle Firefighters were called to 77 Center Avenue at about 5:00 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a fire on the 3rd floor.

60 residents were evacuated into the freezing cold, many of them relocated to a temporary shelter at the Habitat ReStore at 659 Main Street. The Red Cross was called to assist.

Cablevision Employee Sexually Assaults Elderly Woman: A New Rochelle woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a Cablevision employee Dec. 15, 2015 but didn’t report the incident until Jan. 19, according to a police report. The victim told police the employee came to her home to install cable Dec. 14, and after completing the job, left her home about 30 minutes later. Between 12:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. the following morning, the same man entered the woman’s home, woke her up and allegedly sexually assaulted her, the police report said.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Morton Siegel of New Rochelle passed away February 2, 2016. He was 83. Morton was born May 29, 1932 in the Bronx to the late Joseph and Gertrude Siegel. He completed his undergraduate studies at CUNY Baruch College and received his Master's Degree from Columbia Business School. He served in the Army and was honorably discharged. He liked to say that he was "chairborne" during the Korean War as he was at a desk responsible for classified documents. Morton was the Associate Research Director and Training Supervisor for Value Line in Manhattan.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --Michael John Sullivan, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, died on February 3, 2016. He was 73.

Michael was born on July 11, 1942 in New Rochelle, to the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Manning) Sullivan. He worked for many years as an Orthopedic Technician.

He is survived by his sister Mary Ellen Sullivan Brick and her husband Maurice; his niece Eilis Siobhan Krick and her husband Michael J. ; his grandnephew Declan and grandniece Meghan.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Edna Mae Fadem, of New Rochelle, NY, 88, died peacefully on February 2, 2016, surrounded by her beloved husband of 67 years, Leroy {"Lee") and her family. The daughter of the late Charles and Patricia Raizen, "Sunny" lit up every room she entered. She loved life and her passions were family, gardening, music, world affairs and travel with Lee.
