Bard Edges CNR on Senior Night

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle women's swim team finished off its 2015-16 season with a narrow loss to Bard College on Monday night. CNR jumped out to a 57-53 lead, but Bard rallied in the long distance events and won the final relay to pull out the 87-73 win. 

Senior Claudia Benitez (White Plains, NY) swam in her last meet for the Blue Angels and couldn't have had a better night.  She won both the 200 IM and the 100 Breaststroke, and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team.

Iona MBB Holds On At Saint Peter's, 75-67

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- For the second straight game, the Iona College men's basketball team never trailed, but had to hang on late in a 75-67 win at Saint Peter's in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Yanitelli Center. The Gaels built a 20-point advantage midway through the second half and withstood a Peacock charge that saw the lead go down to within five points in the final 30 seconds of the contest.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The Monroe College men's track and field team had another standout showing this past weekend at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University.  The Mustangs had three runners and a relay team qualify for nationals.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The Monroe College women's track and field team had another strong showing at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational at Boston University this past weekend.  The team earned nine more spots at Nationals with some impressive performances.

Leading the way, as usual, was freshman Susan Ejore. The Nakuru, Kenya native ran  a lighting quick 2:07.32 in the 800 meter run, her first ever attempt at that distance.  The time was not only a national qualifying mark, but it set a new school record as well.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Iona College men's basketball senior guard A.J. English was named one of ten watch list finalists for the 2016 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today. Named after Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West, the annual honor in its second year recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men's college basketball.

Mother Reports Marijuana Smoke Emanating from Neighbor’s Apartment: New Rochelle Police were called Dec. 30 to an apartment at 1 Allard Ave. after a woman reported marijuana smoke coming from a neighbor’s apartment. The complainant told police she was concerned about the safety of her two small children, one of whom needs special care. She told police the marijuana smoke is a reoccurring problem. No one answered at the suspected apartment when knocked on the door.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle police arrested four suspects this afternoon in an armed robbery in downtown New Rochelle that resulted in a 2 mile police chase that ended a block short of New Rochelle High School minutes before school was due to be let out for the day.

Four men are suspected of robbing EZ Mobile and Computers located at 4 South Division Street in downtown New Rochelle at about 2:30 p.m.
