Over $1 Million Raised for DeFeo Family Endowed Scholarship

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Close to 150 guests -- including family, friends and colleagues of Mr. DeFeo as well as five current students who are DeFeo Scholars -- were in attendance at the benefit held at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich, Conn.

 “Your gifts ensure our students have the opportunity to achieve their academic aspirations and have the best college experience possible,” Iona President Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D., told those at the event. “Because of you, DeFeo Scholars will be able to create life-long relationships, broaden their interests and prepare for a successful future.”

Monroe Women's Basketball Loses to Union County College is District N/O Tourney

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College women's basketball team showed the heart of a champion during the latter half of the 2015-16 campaign, but it's season came to an end on Saturday, with a 64-51 loss to Union County College in the District N/O semifinal from the Monroe Athletic Complex.  The team finished the year with a 10-20 mark, but six of those victories came after the calendar flipped from 2015 to 2016.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College men's track and field team concluded its indoor season on Saturday with several standout performances at the Last Chance Invitational from Staten Island, New York.

Freshman Adrian Sheriff placed 7th in the 500 meters with a new personal best time of 1:05.84.  Tevin Aitken posted a personal best in the mile (4:56.50) and set a new season-best in the 800 with a time of 2:03.30.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College women's track and field team concluded its indoor season on Saturday with several standout performances at the Last Chance Invitational from Staten Island, New York.

Leading the way for the Mustangs was freshman, Tristan Evelyn, who won the 60 meters in a time of 7.50.  In the same race, Denesha Ransome, set a new personal-best of 7.65, good for fourth place.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College men's basketball team had a bittersweet weekend as they hosted the Region 15 Championship.  The Mustangs defeated ASA College 77-75 in the semifinal on Saturday, but saw their season come to an end with an 82-78 loss to Harcum in the final on Sunday.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College baseball team dropped its third extra inning contest in its first six games in a 14-13 decision at North Carolina A&T in non-conference action at War Memorial Stadium. Rookie 2B Sean Breen hit his first two collegiate home runs and five other Gaels recorded multiple hits in the loss.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona women’s water polo team split two matches on Saturday, March 5 at the 2016 Harvard Invitational. The Gaels were bested by No. 19 Indiana 14-10, and earned a dramatic upset win over No. 11 Hartwick College.

In the opening contest, sophomore Hannah Schultz led the Gaels with five goals. Seniors Taylor Silva, Meghan Mahoney, and Rebecca Mathews each tallied one goal apiece, along with junior Rebecca Koshy, and sophomore Brittany Toro.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- No. 2 seeded Iona College men's basketball team downed No. 7 Canisius 73-55 in quarterfinal round action at the 2016 MAAC Championship at the Times Union Center. Senior A.J. English had a 20-point, 10-assist double-double and flirted with a triple-double by adding seven boards in the win. The 55 points surrendered in the contest was the second-lowest of the season for the Maroon & Gold.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Gaels have advanced to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship Tournament semifinals with decisive 64-47 win over the Siena College Saints. 

Seniors led the way to victory for the Iona College women’s basketball program Friday afternoon; All-MAAC First Team Member Joy Adams scored 20 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, and Aaliyah Robinson lit it up from the outside, hitting five triples as part of her season-high 21 point scoring effort.
