NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Denise Aguayo, student, Monroe College, New Rochelle, New York, was named 2016 American Culinary Federation (ACF) Northeast Region Student Chef of the Year on February 20. She received the title following a competition at the ACF Northeast Regional Culinary Salon held at Pennsylvania School of Culinary Arts, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Iona Preparatory School K-12 will hold a Spring Fling fundraiser for its Lower School Library & Technology Center renovations on Saturday, March 12, at Mulino’s at Lake Isle, 660 White Plains Road, Eastchester, N.Y.

Spring Fling, comprising a dinner and auction, will run from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. The event, presented by the Lower School Mothers’ Auxiliary, will also serve to honor Frank and Heidi Coppola and William and Roseann McSorley, parents of Lower School students and significant contributors to the success of Iona Prep.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Students were evacuated from New Rochelle High School on Wednesday due to a gas leak.

Officials at New Rochelle High School spent 40 minutes attempting to locate the source of a strong odor of gas in the building before pulling an alarm to call the fire department and evacuate the school at about 10 a.m.

In a statement issued by Principal Reggie Richardson, the source of the gas odor was described as a problem with the boiler vent.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) unveiled plans today to build a $230-million, 280,000-square-foot Ambulatory Care Pavilion adjacent to Westchester Medical Center on its Valhalla campus, which would be the largest healthcare construction project in the county in decades. The announcement was made at a meeting of the Westchester County Local Development Corporation (LDC), an agency created by Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino, which makes tax-exempt financing available to not-for-profit institutions at no risk to taxpayers.

Bee Line bus drivers get raises in new contract

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Liberty Lines Bus Operators, Mechanics, Cleaners and other workers will be getting 11% pay raises under a tentative contract Transport Workers Union Local 100 negotiated with Liberty Transit Inc.

The five-year deal secures annual pay increases of 1.75%, 2%, 2%, 2.25% and 3%.

The pact also secures improved pensions and other benefits, including uniform allowances and nighttime differential pay.
