NEW YORK, NY -- Con Edison is warning customers to beware of imposters claiming to be from the company and seeking to enter a home or business.

Con Edison employees carry identification cards with their photo, name and the company’s name and logo. If you see identification and still have doubts about the person’s legitimacy, call  1-800-75CONED (1-800-752-6633) before letting the person in your home or business.

Anyone who suspects a person is falsely claiming to be a Con Edison employee should call their local police department.

ALBANY, NY -- The New York State Office of Mental Health today announced upcoming suicide prevention training courses occurring throughout New York State. These free or low-cost training sessions are both scheduled and available by request in every county of the state. Various trainings are available for the general public in addition to targeted trainings for teachers, nurses, police officers and teens.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Monroe College, a national leader in educating urban and international students, today announced that its Culinary Institute of New York competition team was named the Northeast Regional Champions in an American Culinary Federation (ACF) competition, and that sophomore Denise Aquayo was named the Northeast Regional Student Chef of the Year at the same event. It is the first time since 2008 that one college won both top titles for the Northeast.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Registration is now open for the 2016Westchester County Scholastic Chess Championship being held Saturday, March 5 at Church Street Elementary, 295 Church St., White Plains, NY 10603.

The tournament is open to area students from kindergarten through high school with sections organized based grade. The event is organized by the National Scholastic Chess Foundation the leading provider of chess in education programs in Westchester County and Greenwich, CT.

Library Board of Trustees Appoint New Board Member

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- At a February 28th meeting of the New Rochelle Public Library Board of Trustees, the Board accepted the resignation of Trustee George Walters and appointed Yadira Ramos-Herbert to fill the remainder of his fourth year of a five-year term. Mr. Walters resigned due to his relocation outside of New Rochelle. The fourth year of Mr. Walters’ term will conclude on June 30, 2015.
