Westchester County Partners with Pace University for 2nd Annual #westchestersmart Mobile App Development Bowl

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- More than 250 tech-savvy students from 36 high schools and colleges across the New York-metropolitan region today joined together to kick off the second annual #WestchesterSmart Mobile App Development Bowl at the Westchester County Center in White Plains. 

Sponsored by Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino and Pace University’s Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems, the competition challenges students to develop mobile applications that improve an aspect of daily life for people ages 65 and older.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Mona Eltahawy, an award-winning columnist and international public speaker on Arab and Muslim issues and global feminism, will deliver this year’s Dowell Lecture at The College of New Rochelle (CNR).

The Dowell Lecture will be held Thursday, March 10, at 7 p.m. at CNR’s Romita Auditorium. Eltahawy’s lecture is titled “Feminism: The Social and Sexual Revolution Goes Global.” The event, which is free and open to the public, has been held annually since 1987.

New Rochelle Swim Instructor Arrested on Child-Porn Charges

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Rhony Sanchez, 35, a youth swim instructor in Westchester County for the past two decades, was arrested Thursday on child-pornography charges, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's Office. He was arraigned at Yonkers City Court on March 3rd.

Bail was set at $250,000. A family member paid 10% of that in cash. Sanchez is next due in Yonkers City Court on Friday March 11.

I have attended many State of the City addresses by New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson. For the first time in recent memory, the Mayor’s unrestrained boosterism matched the reality, at least as far as real estate development is concerned. Despite the Mayor’s treacly rhetoric, the City does have an undeniable positive momentum.

There were many good points made and just as many reasons to celebrate actual progress on efforts to develop the downtown business district.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- With overwhelming support from the members of the New Rochelle Board of Education and under the leadership of New Rochelle High School Principal Reginald Richardson, all students graduating in 2017 will wear purple gowns. Gown color will be optional in 2016.

The formal announcement came in an email sent Friday by Richardson to members of the New Rochelle High School community.
