NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A student who successfully advocated for a change in the graduation gown policy at New Rochelle High School, has published a Facebook post claiming to have been targeted by vandals at the school as a result.

Jackson Riemerschmid published two photos of a damaged vehicle, one of a broken side mirror and the other of a rear bumper.

"I know this is a result of my advocating for the change in graduation robes but I will never stop fighting for the LGBTQ+ community," wrote Riemerschmid on Facebook.

Powell’s book, The Education of Kevin Powell: A Boy's Journey into Manhood, explores how overcoming adversity helps shape our ability to become resilient and responsible adults.

Students in grades 7-8 have been preparing for Powell's visit for several weeks with classroom lessons, lunchtime reading groups, and after-school book clubs.

NEW YORK, NY -- New York State Commissioner of Taxation and Finance Jerry Boone today reminded all New York State taxpayers that the fastest and safest way to receive their income tax refunds is by having them directly deposited into their bank accounts.

Taxpayers who e-file and choose direct deposit can receive their refund in as few as 14 days, while a paper check can take an extra week or more.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- County Executive Robert P. Astorino announced that Westchester County’s Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS) has issued a request for proposals (RFPs) from qualified agencies to provide Adult Day Services. The funding comes from grants through the federal Older Americans Act.

Adult Day Services include structured, comprehensive programs that provide socialization, supervision, personal care and nutrition in a protective setting during the day but for less than 24 hours.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College baseball team fell to UNC Wilmington 19-7 in non-conference action at Brooks Field.

Senior LF Travis Mistretta was 3-for-4 with a run scored and five RBI, smacking a grand slam home runi n the top of the sixth inning for his third home run of the season. Senior C Carmine Palummo had his third straight multiple-hit effort with two hits. He drove in a run with singles in the second and fifth innings.
