NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A multi-generation alumni family, a banking executive, and a co-founder of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge will be honored by Iona College at the 2016 Trustee Scholarship Award Gala on Friday, April 15, at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan, the Board of Trustees recently announced.

“These outstanding alumni honorees personify Iona’s mission of community service, scholarship and life-long learning,” said Iona President Joseph E. Nyre, Ph.D. “They are a testament to Iona’s mission and the liberating power of education.”

BLS: Energy prices in New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island

NEW YORK, NY -- Gasoline prices averaged $1.904 per gallon in the New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island area in February 2016, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Chief Regional Economist Martin Kohli noted that gasoline prices were down $0.430 compared to last February when area households paid $2.334 per gallon. Electricity prices averaged 18.2 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh), down from the 22.0 cents per kWh paid in February 2015. The average price of utility (piped) gas, at $0.868 per therm, was also lower than last February’s price of $0.959.

Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities Honors College of New Rochelle Sophomore Kevona Jackson

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Kevona Jackson, a sophomore at The College of New Rochelle from Yonkers, NY was selected by the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (cIcu) as one of 10 recipients of a 2016 Independent Sector Student Community Service Award and a $500 H.D. Paley Scholarship in recognition for her efforts on behalf of others.  The award annually honors 10 outstanding students in the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) who attend New York State independent colleges.

Kevona Jackson SAS’18 from Yonkers with Dr. Danielle Wozniak, after Jackson received the H.D. Paley Scholarship for leadership in community service.

NEW YORK, NY -- Prices in the New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island area, as measured by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), edged up 0.2 percent for the second consecutive month in February, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Chief Regional Economist Martin Kohli attributed the change to increases in shelter and apparel.

Among other expenditure items, the food index declined 0.4 percent in February—the largest decrease in over a year—due to lower prices for food at home (-0.8 percent).

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The members of the Iona Preparatory School’s Mission Peru team recently returned home from their annual Christian service trip to the South American country, all carrying far more with them than they had upon their departure 10 days earlier.

They arrived home with crystal-clear perspective, deeper commitment to helping those less fortunate and a greater appreciation for their Iona Prep brothers, all true valuables filling their hearts and minds as opposed to their suitcases.
