Iona Cross Country & Track Alumni Shine on International Stage

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College cross country and track and field programs were represented well on the international running stage by trio of alumni this past weekend.

Former Gael standout Stephen Chemlany ’06 took home third place in the 2016 Marathon de Paris Sunday (Apr. 3). He posted a time of 2:07.37 in the IAAF Gold Label event. There are currently 29 marathons in the world to earn the distinction including the Boston, Chicago and New York City Marathons in the United States.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A pair of errors in the top of the seventh led to three Marist runs in a 7-6 defeat of the Iona College baseball team in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at City Park.

Freshman 2B Sean Breen and sophomore 3B/RF Seth Hoagland each had a pair of hits while breen and junior RF Kyle DiVico dove in two runs a piece. Hoagland and rookie CF/3B Fran Kinsey scored twice in the loss.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Fairfield in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at City Park. The Gaels fell 2-1 in the opener and 7-1 in the night cap.

Six different Gaels recorded hits in the game one defeat. Senior LF Travis Mistretta drove in teammate Fran Kinsey in the bottom of the first inning for Iona's lone run. The Stags scored once each in their first two at bats.

Senior C Carmine Palummo tripled to lead off the second inning but was erased at the plate on a fielder's choice.

04/13 Robert Cox, Entire Project Team Take Questions on $106 mm New Rochelle Schools Bond at East End Civic 7 PM

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The $50 mm New Rochelle School Bond failed on December 15, 2015 after an organized opposition led by ReformFirst.org, led by Robert Cox and compromised of many members  from the East End of New Rochelle.

A particular focus of the effort to defeat the bond was the School Election District at Holy Name Church. The bond failed there by a whopping margin of 177-49.

On Wednesday April 13 at 7 p.m., Robert Cox will address the East Civic Association to explain why he is now supporting a $106 million bond, more than twice the size of the original.
