Softball Kicks off 2016 Season

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle softball squad kicked off the 2016 campaign with two contests this week.  They opened the season on Monday with a double-header against University of Maine - Presquie Isle.  The Blue Angels suffered 18-1 and 23-1 five-inning, setbacks in the opener.  Later in the week on Thursday night, CNR hosted St Joseph's College (BK) and fell by scores of 18-1 and 16-0, both in five innings.

Monroe Baseball Defeats Brookdale Community College, 3-1

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Timely hitting and a pair of strong pitching performances catapulted the Monroe College baseball team to a 3-1 victory over Brookdale Community College in a game played in New Rochelle on Friday.  Isiah Torres had the game-winning RBI for the Mustangs.

Andres Fernandez got the start on the mound for the Mustangs and the sophomore went 6.2 innings to earn the win.  Tony Hernandez tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn his first save of the season.

Big Second Half Lifts #IWL Over LIU Brooklyn, 14-11

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College lacrosse team returned to Mazzella field and picked up a 14-11 victory over LIU Brooklyn in their final non-conference matchup of the season. After being down at half 7-5, Iona used a strong second half, and a late four goal surge, to even their season mark to 5-5.

Senior Mary Kate McCormick helped lead the Gaels offense with an outstanding day, netting four goals to go along with five assists. Junior Erin Pugh continued her outstanding shooting, rifling home four net-finders making this her fourth straight game with at least three goals.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College baseball team used a strong pitching effort and a timely offensive attack in a doubleheader sweep of Marist in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at City Park. Senior Kyle DiVico's RBI base hit in the 10th inning led the Gaels to a 3-2 walk-off win in the opener. The Maroon & Gold's two-run second inning was all the offense it would need in a 2-1 win in the night cap.

LINCOLN PARK MURDER: Man Shot, Killed in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- An unidentified male was pronounced dead at the scene following an overnight shooting in Lincoln Park in New Rochelle.

New Rochelle Police responded to multiple calls of gunshots in the area of Lincoln Park at approximately 3:24 a.m. Sunday morning.

“Upon arrival officers observed a male victim, lying on the ground inside the park, bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound,” said Captain Robert Gazzola.
