NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Opera, celebrating 31 years of bringing quality opera to Westchester County, will honor Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano Rosalind Elias and Maestro Eve Queler at its Annual Spring Gala on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 6:30 pm at The Fountainhead, located at 55 Quaker Ridge Road, New Rochelle, NY. The annual event is the Company’s largest fundraiser.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In two close, hard-fought matches this afternoon against the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s two first-place teams, the Iona women’s water polo team lost 9-6 to Wagner College and 10-7 to host Marist College.   With the losses, the Gaels dropped to 10-14 overall and 6-4 in the MAAC.

Despite a strong defensive effort and a fourth-quarter, four-goal rally, the Gaels fell 9-6 to Wagner in this afternoon’s first match.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Junior first basemen Kristen Turner took it upon herself to make sure that Iona split their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader against Rider.  The Broncs came from behind in final at-bat of game one to earn an opening 5 to 2 win, but the Maroon & Gold bats woke up for game two in route to an 8 to 5 victory.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The 36th annual Our Children, Our Artists exhibit will be on view in the Lumen Winter Gallery of the New Rochelle Public Library from May 2nd through May 25th.  The art work of students in the city’s seven elementary schools will be on display from May 2nd through May 11th; and the work of middle and high school students will be exhibited from May 18th through May 25th. The exhibit is curated by Erica Bogin, artist and art teacher.

New Rochelle Public Libraries Closures in May

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The main New Rochelle Public Library will be closed on Sunday, May 8th for Mother’s Day. It will also be closed on Sunday, May 29th and Monday, May 30th for Memorial Day observances. 

The Huguenot Children’s Library is normally closed on Sundays and will also be closed on Monday, May 30th for Memorial Day.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Gilbride, Ellen (Morrissey) Gilbride of New Rochelle died peacefully on April 10 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Ellen, known as Eileen to her friends and family, was born in 1930 in Rathkeale, County Limerick, Ireland. Eileen emigrated to the US as a young woman and initially worked as a nanny. She met and was married to Andrew Gilbride for 47 years and together they raised four children.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle City Council will discuss conflicts of interest and transparency of elected and appointed board members in the government of the City of New Rochelle at a board meeting Tuesday, shortly before a public hearing on amendments to the Downtown Overlay Zone where a conflict of interest involving the New Rochelle Planning Board and RDRXR, the City's master developer has arisen.
