NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Honoring six graduating players today, the Iona women’s water polo team celebrated with two conference wins over Virginia Military Institute and Villanova University in hosting six Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches today.

Prior to the Villanova match, Iona head coach Brian Kelly recognized graduating seniors Dana Andrea, Sarah Bortz, Meghan Mahoney, Rebecca Matthews, Taylor Silva, and sophomore Brittany Toro, who will earn her degree after two years as a Gael.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College softball program split a pair of games at Niagara Saturday afternoon. The Purple Eagles took game one 4-1, but the Maroon & Gold would bounce back in game two, earning a 6-1 victory. Head Coach Melissa Inouye now sees her team at 8-22 overall, and 2-4 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle youth are encouraged to register for the Lifeguard Training Remediation Program led by Robert Bynum, Aquatics Director. This exciting series of classes will prepare students for the Lifeguarding Test. An informational meeting will be held on Thursday, April 21st at 4pm at the Youth Bureau office, located in City Hall (515 North Avenue, New Rochelle).

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- A team from Mamaroneck High School took home top honors at the 2nd Annual #WestchesterSmart Mobile App Development Bowl on Friday, where more than 250 students competed at Pace University’s Pleasantville campus to see who had developed the best mobile application after weeks of design and development. In all, teams from eight high schools and colleges took home cash awards.

The Rock Club of Mamaroneck High School was the Grand Prize winning team in the 2016 #WestchesterSmart Mobile App Development Bowl. From left, Dr. Jonathan Hill, Interim Dean of Pace University’s Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems; Mamaroneck teacher Jigar Jadav; student Sam Blumberg, student Max Bobby, and County Executive Robert P. Astorino. The awards ceremony was held April 15 at Pace’s Pleasantville campus.

NEW YORK, NY -- Con Edison customers now generate more than 100 megawatts of clean, renewable power with solar panels on roofs in New York City and Westchester County.

Customers in the five boroughs and Westchester have completed 8,415 solar projects atop houses, condo buildings, skyscrapers and expansive warehouses, generating 105.4 megawatts, enough to power about 16,000 homes annually.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College Lacrosse team slipped past Siena for their third straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win. Saturday afternoon's 12-11 victory is the program's first win over Siena since 2009.

The MAAC’s leading facilitator and Iona's captain. senior Mary Kate McCormick, led the offensive attack with two goals and three assists. She also recorded a season high six ground balls. Junior Erin Pugh and sophomore Jenna Tolzmann each recorded a hat trick with three goals apiece. Pugh added in one assist and a season high seven draw controls.

Part of the allure of this annual event is the ability to rub elbows with a member of the New York Giants. This year, the Gaels are honored to welcome special teams captain Zak DeOssie.
