NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle’s Fourth Annual Kite Day will take place at Davenport Park on Saturday, May 21st from 11AM to 3PM. Bring your own kite or use one of ours (limited number of kites available). This family-friendly event open to all ages features kite flying activities along with music by DJ Third Stone, food for sale from Beechmont Café, and a health and wellness expo. In case of rain, the event will be rescheduled to May 22.

NRPD participates in 2016 Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run

Several members of the New Rochelle PBA/Police Department will participate in the 2016 New York State Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run from 8 a.m.-4:15 p.m. May 5, according to a news release from the New Rochelle Police Department.

Eight NRPD officers will run in the event, and will hold the torch during a two-mile stretch between Mt. Vernon to Eastchester.

The program will take place in the Meeting Room of the New Rochelle Public Library and will take place between 9:30 am and 11:00 am. The public is welcome to attend the free program.

The ensemble of singers, under the direction of Jena Smith and accompanied by pianist Marianne Salzman, will perform "Cameos and Selfies," an intimate portrait of choosing our paths in life—what we find in the world, our joys, sorrows, and satisfactions.

NEW YORK, NY -- Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced today that former New York State Assembly Speaker SHELDON SILVER was sentenced this afternoon to 12 years in prison after having been found guilty by a federal jury of using his official position to obtain nearly $4 million in bribes and kickbacks in exchange for his official acts and obtaining another $1 million through laundering the proceeds of his crimes.   SILVER was sentenced in Manhattan federal court by U.S. District Judge Valerie E.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Yonkers Police Officers will start off the Westchester leg of the torch run on the morning of May 5th at the 3rd Precinct, located at 435 Riverdale Avenue, and carry the torch through the city and into the City of Mount Vernon. The “flame of hope” is then handed off to the next jurisdiction. This is done throughout the county, ending eventually in Peekskill later in the day. In 2015 Nearly 2,000 officers representing more than 200 agencies across the state participated in the torch run.
