NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Congratulations to Police Commissioner Patrick J. Carroll, who was selected as a recipient of the 2016 Ellis Island Medal of Honor. The award will be presented at a ceremony on May 7. Commissioner Carroll’s parents passed through the Great Hall of Ellis Island over 86 years ago.

“The award is a validation to all immigrants that paved the way for us in the greatest country in the world. If they didn’t do it, we wouldn’t be here!” said Commissioner Carroll.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Connecticut Westchester Hudson Valley Chapter has announced Savanna DiFatta, 8, of New Rochelle, as this year’s Girl of the Year.


Savannah DiFatta was diagnosed with blood cancer when she was 6. She recently finished her last chemotherapy treatment and is cancer free.


Although her recovery was lengthy, Savannah DiFatta remained positive and energetic throughout her illness, her mother, Jenn DiFatta said.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Water testing results made public by the New Rochelle School District’s Health & Safety Committee this morning indicate dangerous levels of lead in drinking water at the George M. Davis Elementary School, according to a recent report. The report was prepared by Louis Berger, a one billion dollar global professional services corporation, with over 6,000 engineers, economists, scientists, managers and planners, specializes in infrastructure and development projects.

Suspect Steals Items from Parked Vehicle: New Rochelle Police responded to a report of items missing from a vehicle. A New Rochelle woman told police that someone had allegedly stolen several items from her parked 2013 Volkswagen Passat on March 21. The complainant told police she parked her car in the driveway around 8 p.m. March 18, and when she returned, she found her car window open. She told police that her car radio, baby carrier and makeup bag were stolen from the vehicle. Neither the locks nor the windows were damaged, the police report said.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty announced that Stivenson Desir (DOB 11/12/96) of 759 Main Street, New Rochelle, New York was arraigned today on an indictment charging him with:

•one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class “A” Felony,

•two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, class “C” Felonies,

in the death of Brandon Lawrence.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty announced that Isaac McKnight (DOB 02/02/92) of 134 Webster Avenue, New Rochelle, New York was sentenced today to twelve years in state prison after having pled guilty on March 1, 2016 to: 

•one count of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, a class “B” Violent Felony.  

The defendant was working as a part time assistant teacher at a day care center in the Village of Tuckahoe. On November 5, 2015 he sexually assaulted a 4 year old child at the center.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced today that VLADIMIR TSASTSIN was sentenced in Manhattan federal court to more than seven years in prison for perpetrating a massive internet fraud scheme by infecting more than four million computers in over 100 countries with malware.  The malware secretly altered the settings on infected computers, enabling TSASTSIN and his co-conspirators to digitally hijack users’ Internet searches and re-route their computers to certain websites and advertisements.
