WHITE PLAINS, NY -- AJC Westchester/Fairfield announced it will be awarding its Distinguished Leadership Award to former Regional and National President E. Robert Goodkind.  The award will be presented by current AJC National President Stanley Bergman. The evening will be moderated by Dinner Co-Chairs, Marvin Israelow and Harriet Schleifer.  The program will focus on AJC – Past, Present and Future and will feature a keynote address by Rabbi David Ellenson. Toasts will be made by Westchester residents, AJC CEO David Harris, U.S.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- John R. "Jack" Miller, age 69, died peacefully on April 25, 2016, from advanced stage kidney cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Wise Miller; his children, Jo-El Miller Shea and her husband, Declan Shea, and their five children, Stephen Miller and his wife, Janet Carpenter Miller, and their three children, Abigail Wise and her fiance, Graham Fisher, and Benjamin Wise and his fiancee, Jenna Mannix. He is also survived by his brother, Alan Miller and his wife, MaryAnn; and their two children, Justin and Brandon.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- New Rochelle Opera, Weschester’s longest running opera company, will present its first ever staged production of Giuseppe Verdi’s IL TROVATORE from June 23-26, 2016 in the Frank J. Auriana Theatre at the Ursuline School, 1345 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY.  Company co-founder and artistic director Camille Coppola will direct the local premiere, with orchestra and chorus conducted by Gregory Ortega.  The production will feature the use of English supertitles to translate the Italian text.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne will officially present William B. Ward Elementary School’s renovated school library to the community on Thursday, May 19 at 5:00 p.m. during a ribbon cutting ceremony. Ward’s more than 1,000 grade K-5 students read 1,487,477 minutes and raised almost $44,000 for the renovations through their recent Read-a-thon. The effort was conceived and led by the school’s PTA in partnership with Ward Principal Franco Miele and his staff.

NEW YORK, NY -- Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced today that former New York State Senate Majority Leader DEAN SKELOS was sentenced today to five years in prison after having been found guilty by a federal jury of using his official position to obtain more than $300,000 in bribes and extortion payments that were paid to his son, ADAM SKELOS, in exchange for DEAN SKELOS’s official acts.  ADAM SKELOS, who was convicted by the same jury, was also sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison.

Murphy, Stephen grew up in Pelham and attended Siwanoy Elementary School. He would go on to study at Fordham Preparatory School and then Denison University in Ohio where he would graduate with a degree in Economics.
