NEW YORK, NY -- Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced today that his office has secured settlement agreements with three real estate brokerage firms operating in New York City, Nassau County, and Westchester County, following investigations that revealed unlawful housing discrimination against potential applicants with Section 8 housing vouchers. Local regulations prohibit discrimination in housing on the basis of lawful source of income, a category that includes government vouchers as well any legitimate occupation.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --A Memorial Tribute to the New Rochelle residents who made the Supreme Sacrifice while in active duty will be on display at the New Rochelle Public Library from Friday, May 27th through Friday, June 3rd, during regular library hours. Special viewing of the exhibit will also be made possible on Monday, May 30th immediately following the Memorial Day ceremonies at Memorial Plaza, which will begin at 10:00 am. The public may enter the library’s Memorial Highway entrance to see the exhibit on view in the library’s lobby.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The City of New Rochelle will reactivate valet parking services in the downtown, beginning Memorial Day weekend. This white-glove valet service allows downtown restaurant patrons to drop off their cars at the Library South parking lot and pay a flat $5 fee to park until midnight, eliminating the need to circle for a space or worry about expired meters. The City of New Rochelle is working jointly with the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District to provide this service.

Illegal Immigrant from Guatemala Pleads Guilty to Repeatedly Raping a Child in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Aisar Valiente, 39, plead guilty Tuesday to one count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the Second Degree, a class D felony. A Class D Violent Felony carries a 2-7 year maximum sentence. 

Valiente was arrested by New Rochelle police on November 20th and charged last November with Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the First Degree, a Class B Violent Felony which carries a sentence of 5 to 25 years in prison. he was held on $500,000 bail.

State Labor Department Releases Preliminary April 2016 Area Unemployment Rates

NEW YORK, NY -- The New York State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for April 2016. Rates are calculated as prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The State’s area unemployment rates rely in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month.
