Robin Roberts, Elizabeth Bell LeVaca Awarded Honorary Degrees at 109th CNR Commencement

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The College of New Rochelle (CNR) celebrated its 109th Commencement on Tuesday, May 24, at The Beacon Theatre, with approximately 1,000 degrees conferred upon students from the School of Arts & Sciences, the School of Nursing, the School of New Resources and the Graduate School. Elizabeth Bell LeVaca, immediate past Chair of CNR’s Board of Trustees, and Robin Roberts, Commencement speaker and Good Morning America Co-Host were awarded honorary degrees.

Hudson Park Beach Opens for the Season Memorial Day Weekend

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The beach season officially begins this weekend, with the opening of Hudson Park Beach on Saturday, May 28. The beach is open weekends only in May and June and then every day, conditions permitting, from Monday, June 27 - Monday, September 5. Beach hours are 10 am to 6 pm.

Werner K. Schlupp, Korean War Vet, Passes at 84

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Werner Schlupp passed away peacefully Monday, May 23, 2016 with his wife by his side. He was 84. Werner was born March 4, 1932 and lived his whole life in New Rochelle. A Korean War veteran, he proudly served on the U.S.S. Murray for four years in the Navy. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Sonja Luehrs, his three children Susan Fow, Jimmy and Kenny Schlupp, his six grandchildren and five great grand children. Werner was best known for his love of history, ability to fix anything, positive outlook, sense of humor and love for his family.

New York AG Sues Domino Pizza for Mistreating Workers

NEW YORK, NY -- It took 30 minutes or less for New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman to announce a lawsuit against Domino’s Pizza, Inc., Domino’s Pizza LLC and Domino’s Pizza Franchising LLC (collectively, “Domino’s”) and three Domino’s franchisees, alleging that they underpaid workers at least $565,000 at ten stores in New York. The lawsuit asserts that Domino’s is a joint employer of the workers at the 10 franchise locations, and is therefore responsible for underpaid wages to these workers.

No one was kinder, friendlier, tougher, more committed, more loving or caring. She was predeceased by her husband Bertrand Price Kadis. She will be missed by her daughters Ruth Kadis Strauss (Steve), Rosanne Kadis and Linda Kadis Platzner (Corey), grandchildren, Marley and Amelia Strauss, Adam and Barrett Platzner, nieces and nephews Lisa Messinger (Jeffrey), Elizabeth Mintz, Dana Messinger and Adam Messinger (Marina).
