New Independent Senior Housing Complex Opens at United Hebrew of New Rochelle With Help From A $250,000 Grant

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Meadow Lane Senior Apartments, a new independent senior housing complex at United Hebrew of New Rochelle, has received a $250,000 grant from The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation that will support its $6 million construction.  The project adds 32 low-income apartments – 24 one-bedroom units and eight studios – to United Hebrew’s senior housing stock, which also includes Soundview Apartments ’ 135 spacious units.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY --The Board of Trustees of the New Rochelle Public Library will hold a special Board of Trustees Meeting on Monday, May 23rd, at 7:30 pm, in the library’s Ossie Davis Theater. The meeting is being held to review preliminary findings of HR&A, the real estate and economic development consultant hired by the Board of Trustees in order to explore the potential options available to the Library as a result of the recently approved downtown zoning amendments and related future development.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- To celebrate Public Works Week (May 15-21) the Department of Public Works will host a Truck Day event for kindergarteners at William B. Ward Elementary School (Broadfield Rd, New Rochelle) on Thursday, May 19 at 9:30am. Students will  have the opportunity to explore the department’s ‘big trucks’ and at the same time learn about the important role Public Works plays in our community.

9:12 PM Paper jam at ALMS, tech called. Slow at Barnard.

10;58 PM All returns are in except Davis School. They are having problems with the tape. 

Without Davis, the bond and budget passed overwhelmingly. Relkin and Kern are 1 and 2.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- County Executive Robert P. Astorino will present Westchester’s comprehensive plan to minimize the impact of Zika and other mosquito-borne diseases on Thursday, May 19, at 9:45 a.m. at the Kensico Dam playground in Valhalla.

Astorino,  Health Commissioner Sherlita Amler, MD, and Assistant Commissioner for Environmental Health Peter DeLucia will explain the county’s prevention strategies and demonstrate what residents can do at home to reduce their risk of mosquito bites.

We can hope to look back five years from now and say "the spring of 2016 was the worst of times.” A time when, after two years of confronting the result of decades of waste, fraud and incompetence, the butcher's bill came due: $106,479,575.

Some groan at that unflinching tabulation but carry on while others, heartily tired of hearing what is wrong, beg for the complaints and criticism to end. And then there are those who are dragged kicking and whining, denying the obvious reality, every step of the way.

Astorino will welcome WWII veterans for the fourth Hudson Valley Honor Flight (HVHF) out of the Westchester County Airport this Saturday, May 14th.   HVHF, in partnership with the Westchester County Veterans Service Agency (WCVSA), will send 64 Westchester World War II veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the National WWII Memorial.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- 22 eighth-grade students from Isaac E. Young Middle School in New Rochelle become violently ill during the last night of a class trip to Washington, D.C.

The suspicion that students may have contracted the virus earlier that evening at restaurant or on a boat during a ferry ride. The first students began vomiting shortly after 9 p.m. with the virus continuing to spread throughout the night.
