NEW YORK, NY -- Con Edison crews are preparing to respond to any outages that occur today or this evening due to the severe rain and windstorms expected to hit New York City and Westchester County. The company reminds customers to take safety precautions and avoid any downed power lines.

2016 Community Youth Fishing Trips

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Police Department (P.A.C.T.) and the New Rochelle Police Foundation announce the 2016 Community Youth Fishing Program for boys and girls ages 10-15. There are four Wednesday trips that are scheduled for this summer: July 6, 13, August 3 & 10. Participants must arrive at the Fort Slocum Road Dock by 9 AM, the boat returns approximately at 2 PM. Lunch, soft drinks and equipment are provided.

Legislators Burrows, Marcotte Announce Major Rehab for Scout Field Facilities

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Legislator Gordon Burrows (R) Bronxville, Yonkers, and Legislator Sheila Marcotte, (R) Eastchester were joined by their colleagues on the Board of Legislators (BOL) in approving a Bond Act in the amount of $1,932,000 for improvements to the County Park known as Scout Field. The BOL also approved an intermunicipal agreement (IMA) with the Town of Eastchester to operate and maintain the park. The vote took place at the last Board of Legislators meeting on May16th.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A few months ago, walking along North Avenue near New Rochelle High School, I came across a crumbling wall, eroded by the stream below, poised to take out the entire sidewalk and possibly a chunk of North Avenue. I took some photos and sent them to City Manager. Within a matter of days, a Parks Department crew shored up the wall (photo montage above).

Five New Rochelle teachers inducted as fellows

Five New Rochelle teachers were inducted this week as Wipro Teaching Fellows at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry. 

The teachers participated in Wipro’s Science Education Fellowship to enhance their leadership skills in the classroom, according to the the City School District of New Rochelle's facebook page. The fellows will spearhead a project that will influence teaching and learning in New Rochelle schools, the site said.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Over the years, Aramark granted six district employees exclusive access to private offices in the City School District of New Rochelle. These offices, four at New Rochelle High School and two at Grove Street, are hidden in plain sight. Administration officials, security officers and custodians do not have keys to access these offices which are secured by special locks that cannot be opened with the master keys for each building.
