ALBANY, NY -- The New York State Assembly ended its session last week and I am pleased to announce that nine of the bills I authored passed both the Assembly and the Senate. Three of the bills have already been signed into law by Governor Cuomo while the other six await his signature. Here’s a closer look at the nine pieces of legislation:

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Michael Galland announced today that he has resigned as Principal at George M. Davis Jr. Elementary School and accepted a position as Principal at Columbus Elementary School.
“Until recently, I imagined the balance of my working career invested at Davis,” said Galland in a letter to the Davis School Community. “There are issues at Columbus, however, that require immediate attention, and Dr. Osborne has determined that I am uniquely positioned to address them this summer.”
NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Board of Education is expected to announce they have hired Dr. Magda Parvey to the newly-created position of Chief Academic Officer. She was the runner-up for the position of Superintendent during the 2014 search that led to the hiring of Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Osborne.
Parvey is currently the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro (North Carolina) Public Schools.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Five people were injured, one very seriously, in a violent collission between two cars in front of 281 Lincoln Avenue in New Rochelle earlier this evening. One person, described by paramedics on scene as "unresponsive", was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.
There were a total of five people involved, 3 in one car, 2 in the other.
Two other people were taken to Montfiore Hospital in New Rochelle and one was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY.
ALBANY, NY — Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced the sentencing of Dennis Broccolo, 55, of New Rochelle, to 3 and 1/3 to 7 years’ incarceration for each conviction of two counts of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, following his January 21, 2016 guilty plea. Broccolo and co-defendant Stephanie Vega, 27, of New Rochelle, twice submitted false applications for unemployment insurance benefits by claiming to have worked for two different companies at which they were never employed. Broccolo’s sentences were ordered to run concurrently.
Thieves break into parked car, steal wallet: A New Rochelle man’s wallet was allegedly stolen from his parked car April 8, according to a New Rochelle Police report. The complainant told police someone busted the front passenger side window of his parked car between 9 a.m. April 7 and 6:15 a.m. April 8 and stole his wallet which contained two credit cards, a social security card and his driver’s license. No surveillance cameras are in the area, according to the police report.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- As previously reported by Talk of the Sound, Vincent James “Little Jimmy” Bonanno, 34, was arrested on Friday May 27 shortly before 10 p.m. near the corner of Main Street and Harrison Street in New Rochelle. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle Board of Education will hold a hearing on a revised Code of Conduct prepared by the board’s subcommittee of the Solutions to Suspension Task Force. The subcommittee was organized in October 2015 for the purpose of reviewing and revising the Code of Conduct to emphasize the promotion of positive behavioral expectations; the prevention of discipline problems; the use of interventions to support students; and a more limited use of out-of-school suspensions, in-school suspensions, and teacher removals from class.
