Ursuline sisters shine at State Girls Golf Championship

Alice Hodge, an eighth-grade student of Ursuline School placed second in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association State Girls Golf Championships at Bethpage Yellow in Farmingdale, according to the City School District of New Rochelle. This was Alice Hodge’s second time competing in the competition.

Alice Hodge’s sister, Caroline Hodge, who also attends Ursuline School, won sixth place. This was Caroline Hodge’s fourth appearance in the championships. 

"I'm really excited about how I played," said Alice Hodge, whose previous best was a 74. 

Connecticut man crashes car, breaks into New Rochelle home

A Connecticut man was charged with burglary, criminal mischief and DWI June 18 after he crashed his car, broke into a New Rochelle home. 

Angel Luis Acevedo, 37, of Darien, Conn., was arrested after forcing his way in to a house on Sickles Avenue and threatening the homeowner with a knife, according to a New Rochelle Police report.

NRPD Capt. Robert Gazzola said the incident occurred around 9:35 p.m. when NRPD received several calls regarding a car crash that led to an altercation.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Thirty years in the making, the time for celebration is at hand.

The Aramark Facilities Management contract with the City School District of New Rochelle, first signed in 1987, has been terminated, effective June 30, 2016. Two days of mop-up work remain this week during which Aramark will retrieve any remaining equipment and supplies. Aramark is expected to be gone for good by July 7th.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The reigning New Rochelle Corporate Leader of the Year was arrested two weeks ago in New Rochelle.

Robert DeVivo, 48, owner of Flowers By Sutton located at 296 Huguenot Street in New Rochelle was arrested June 21 shortly after 9 a.m. following a routine traffic stop by New Rochelle Police.

Astorino Announces Patriot Housing Initiative Continues to Succeed

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- In celebration of the 4th of July, Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino today announced that the county’s Patriot Housing Initiative continues to successfully help keep Veterans from homelessness throughout Westchester. Since the Patriot Housing Initiative was launched in August of 2013 with the goal of ending homelessness among veterans by the end of 2015, permanent housing has been secured for over 300 previously homeless veterans.

“We want Westchester County residents to have a July 4th weekend that’s memorable for all the right reasons, so use sunscreen and repellents to avoid sunburns and mosquito bites, and remember to drink lots of water when you’re outdoors,” said Health Commissioner Sherlita Amler, MD.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The New Rochelle High School Irish Club recently conducted its second annual fundraiser for cystic fibrosis research. The club's concert, featuring Irish group the Wolfe Tones, raised over $1,100 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The NRHS German Club also added to the group's fundraising total. The Irish Club was led this year by student co-presidents Haley Fullerton, Anya DiSalvo and William Roberts. Great job, students, and thank you to Irish Club adviser Kevin McIvor and German Club adviser Ana Ferreira.

New Rochelle stakeholders were invited to network and discuss the most exciting and pressing issues and developments in their communities. Board of Education President Lianne Merchant and Board of Education Member Dr. Pamela Davis represented the City School District of New Rochelle.
