Homeless Man Found Dead in Woods Near North Avenue Bridge in New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A homeless man died in the woods between the North Avenue Bridge and apartment buildings on Park Place.

New Rochelle Police and New Yotk State Police responded to the scene this afternoon, a small strip of property owned by New York State.

Residents at 46 Park Place say two men lived in the woods.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In celebration of National Night Out, the New Rochelle Police Department will host a community Open House on Tuesday, August 2 from 6-9 PM at Police Headquarters, 475 North Avenue. This family-friendly event will feature facility tours of NRPD headquarters, equipment and K-9 demonstrations, fun attractions including a bike rodeo, children’s activities, food, plus a live DJ. Guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs to the event. Tours of the Harbor Patrol will be given from 2-6 PM, 500 Hudson Park Road.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Commissioner Helen Diane Foster today announced the New York State Division of Human Rights has opened a regional office in White Plains. The office, previously located in Peekskill, officially opened to the public on July 15, 2016. The address is 7-11 South Broadway, Suite 314, White Plains, NY 10601.  

“This new location offers better access to the community,” said Commissioner Foster. “It will help meet the needs of the growing populations in the Hudson Valley.”

Rates are calculated using methods prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The State’s area unemployment rates rely in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month.

City of New Rochelle Appoints Finance Commissioner

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- City Manager Charles B. Strome III has selected Tracy Yogman, CPA as the City’s new Commissioner of Finance. Ms. Yogman will assume the position on September 12.

Ms. Yogman brings extensive municipal experience to the position, having served as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of the Queens Borough Public Library and prior to that, as Comptroller for the Town of Huntington.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- City School District of New Rochelle Construction Consultant Michael Orifici provided an updated to members of the District-Wide Health & Safety Committee at their public meeting on Friday July 22nd.

Orifici provided a summary of the current status of the two major capital construction projects underway this summer, both funded by the $106.5mm bond passed by New Rochelle voters in May.

New Rochelle Middle School Found Dumping Raw Sewage into Protected Wetlands Astride Long Island Sound

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The City of New Rochelle is facing $37,500 a day in federal fines after tests by city engineers revealed that raw sewage has been flowing from a sanitary line emerging from Isaac E. Young Middle School directly into a storm drain running along Church Street and then into the Titus Mill Pond, a protected New York State Tidal Wetlands, in New Rochelle.

The Titus Mill Pond, a natural resource under protection of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, is located at the northeastern end of New Rochelle Harbor and flows into Long Island Sound.
