WHITE PLAINS, NY -- County Executive Robert P. Astorino invites everyone to experience a day-long salute to the traditions of Ireland at the annual Irish Heritage Day Sunday, July 31, 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at Ridge Road Park in Hartsdale. This year’s heritage day will be dedicated to commemorating the centennial anniversary remembrance of the 1916 Easter Uprising. The event is part of a series of cultural heritage festivals held in the parks on weekends during the summer.

NEW YORK, NY -- Prices in the New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island area, as measured by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U), rose for the sixth consecutive month, up 0.3 percent in June, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Chief Regional Economist Martin Kohli attributed the increase primarily to higher prices for energy. (Data in this report are not seasonally adjusted.

Accordingly, month-to-month changes may reflect the impact of seasonal influences.)

WOOF WOOF: Westchester County Police K-9 Strikes Again, Helps Seize 3.5 Kilos of Heroin In New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Westchester County Police arrested a Massachusetts man and seized 3.5 kilos of heroin following a traffic stop on Wednesday on the Hutchinson River Parkway in New Rochelle.

Dennis Burgos, 45, of Springfield, Mass., was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree, a felony.  He was arraigned today in New Rochelle City Court and was ordered held without bail at the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla.

The heroin has an estimated street value of $100,000.

Astorino today announced that Westchester County is once again teaming up with The Sharing Shelf, a program of Family Services of Westchester (FSW), to collect and distribute school supplies so that children in need can start the school year ready to learn. This year people can donate online at www.fsw.org/backpacks or see the list below for the nearest drop-off location.
