NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- At the July 5 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Magda Parvey was appointed to the newly established position of Assistant Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer. In this role, Dr. Parvey will oversee all instructional programs and develop robust short and long range goals for New Rochelle’s instructional program that emanate from the district’s Strategic Roadmap of 2015.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- With hot and humid weather forecast and temperatures expected to reach or exceed 90 degrees in parts of the county for the next three days the Westchester County Health Department is issuing a heat advisory. As temperatures rise, residents are advised to avoid strenuous activity, drink plenty of non-alcoholic, uncaffeinated beverages and take precautions to prevent heat-related illness.

Engel Announces $649,980 for College of New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Congressman Eliot L. Engel, a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee, announced $649,980 in federal funding for the College of New Rochelle (CNR).

The funding, granted by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), will allow CNR to provide scholarships for economically disadvantaged students studying nursing or other health specialties.

NEW YORK, NY -- The jackpot for Friday’s Mega Millions drawing is $508,000,000. The $54,000,000 jump from Tuesday’s jackpot is due to brisk sales across all 44 participating Mega Millions states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Tuesday’s Mega Millions jackpot was $454,000,000 and produced over 820,000 winning tickets in New York State including 14 winners of $5,000 and 12 winners of $2,500. With Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot now at $508,000,000, New York will see even more winners across the state.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- With the 2015-2016 school year recently completed, Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino today honored students who met an academic challenge he issued last fall to Westchester County students in grades 6 through 12.  The Astorino Challenge in Education, or “ACE,” offered a free season pass to Playland to students who signed up at the beginning of the school year and achieved one of the following three benchmarks during the 2015-2016 school year:

Astorino invites movie fans to a screening of Minions (PG, 2015) to kick off the “Entergy Screenings under the Stars” free outdoor movie series on Friday, July 8 at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. The series will continue with Hotel Transylvania 2 (PG, 2015) scheduled to take place on Friday, Aug. 12.

The event is presented by Westchester County Parks and Sharc Events.

NEW YORK, NY -- ew York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos and State Department of Health (DOH) Commissioner Howard Zucker, M.D., J.D. today issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the Lower Hudson, New York City Metro, Long Island and Western areas of New York State for Wednesday, July 6, 2016.

The pollutant of concern is: Ozone

The advisory will be in effect: 11 a.m. through 11 p.m.
