NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In a ceremony at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting, 35 faculty and administrators were awarded tenure. Supervisors of the candidates spoke highly of each. One teacher brings a sense of community into her classroom, another creates an aura of kindness, yet another brings his artistic soul to math. One principal is a community leader and another is noted for his student outcomes. Below are those awarded tenure:

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- With the new school year underway, Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino today re-issued his challenge to all Westchester County students in grades 6 through 12: Win a free season pass to Playland by earning high achievement in the classroom. Now in its fifth year, the Astorino Challenge in Education (ACE) has grown in participation each year of its existence.  Last year, a new category to reward significant student improvement was added to the grades and attendance benchmarks. NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Volunteers needed to assist for Sunday's New Rochelle Street fair(09/18). It will be a festive and fun community-building event. Organizers are looking for volunteers to help the event run as smoothly as possible.

Volunteerers are needed between 8:30 am and 6 pm (2 and 3 hour shifts are available) at the street fair as well as at the Beer & Wine Garden.

Four High School Students Named to Top State Ensemble

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Four upperclassmen at New Rochelle High School have been selected to take part in 2016 New York State School Music Association All-State Ensemble to be held in Rochester in early December.

Annael Alvarez, a junior and a member of the NRHS Chorale, will participate in the women's chorus, and David Rubertone, a junior and part of the NRHS Chorale, will take part in the mixed chorus. Emerick Falta, a tuba player, and Lily Grantcharova, both seniors, will serve as alternates.

PELHAM, NY -- SAVE THE DATE! Pelham Art Center will be a vibrant part of ArtsFest 2016, a two-town art weekend adventure on September 24 and September 25 in New Rochelle and Pelham.  Both Saturday and Sunday 12-4PM will be packed with art-related activities at Pelham Art Center (PAC), so plan to spend the afternoon.  Kicking off the festival on Saturday, from 12PM-2PM, artists Lauren and Dylan Cotton, the creators of Pelham Art Center’s current public art exhibition Mirari, will host a glass blowing demonstration and hands-on free art painting and sculpture workshop for all ages.
