Blue Angels Roll in Home Opening Victory

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- In front of a large and pumped up crowd, the College of New Rochelle Mens Soccer team gave the fans what they came for - an opening night victory as they cruised past Southern Vermont College 3-1 in a non-conference contest Wednesday night.

The game marked the first-ever home game for CNR and the first home win.  CNR now stands at 2-0 on the season while the Mountaineers fall to 1-2.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Hundreds of teachers, administrators and staff packed the auditorium of New Rochelle High School Tuesday to take part in the annual convocation that ushered in the 2016-2017 school year.

The gathering was addressed by Brian Osborne, superintendent of schools, Rachel Relkin, president of the Board of Education; Martin Daly, president of FUSE Leadership Council and teacher at Isaac E. Young Middle School; and Joseph Starvaggi, president of Administrators and Supervisors Union and assistant principal at New Rochelle High School.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- George M. Davis, Jr.  Elementary School opened its door to students today with a new principal and a new assistant principal at the helm, bringing excitement and energy to the new school year. 

Anthony Bambrola, principal, and Laurie Marinaro, assistant principal, were at the front doors of Davis to greet students as they poured into the school. Inside, they fielded questions from parents about assigned teachers, lunch calendars, bus lists and dismissal times.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Michael Galland started his career as an educator at Columbus Elementary School 19 years ago teaching third grade. 

He returned Tuesday as principal of one of the largest grade schools in the City School District of New Rochelle, welcoming about 800 students and dozens of teachers and staff to the start of an exciting year at Columbus Elementary.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- Talk of the Sound has obtained photographs, taken on New Rochelle school district property, of hundreds of rounds of live ammunition along with material and equipment to make thousands more. The live ammunition, along with related material and equipment, was confiscated from Scott Empara, a district electrician, as part of an investigation into alleged threats by Empara to shoot district employees and unleash his arsenal at New Rochelle High School.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Westchester County District Attorney is seeking to euthanize “Apollo”, a two-year old terrier mix who acts as therapy dog for a 10-year old autistic child.

A hearing will be held on Wednesday September 7th to determine whether the dog lives or dies.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL == AutoNation, America's largest automotive retailer, today announced that it has signed agreements to acquire four stores, including five franchises, in the Westchester County, New York area.  The stores to be acquired are BMW Mt. Kisco, Land Rover Mt. Kisco and Jaguar Land Rover Larchmont/New Rochelle from The Premier Collection and White Plains Jaguar from DiSimone Imports, collectively representing approximately $190 million in annual revenue and 2,600 retail new and used vehicle annual unit sales.
