Monroe College Men’s Soccer Defeats CCBC Essex in Battle of Nationally Ranked Teams

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Monroe College men's soccer team has earned a perfect 2-0 start to the season after a 1-0 victory over CCBC Essex in Baltimore on Sunday. This matchup featured a pair of top-20 ranked teams, with Monroe College and CCBC Essex ranked at 15 and 19, respectively.

The lone goal of the contest came in the 78th minute, when Gabriel Machado blasted a shot into the upper left corner of the net off a feed from Lucas Vaz. It was Machado's first goal of the season, while Vaz has two assists in as many games.

WHITE PLAINS, NY -- Councilman Jared Rice in partnership with Habitat of Westchester, Volunteer New York!, Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle, New Rochelle Municipal Housing Authority, and 1 Change at a Time hosted New Rochelle’s Community Enrichment Zone (CEZ) Clean-up day on Saturday morning. Over 150 volunteers showed up to Remington Boys & Girls Club to start the beautification along the Lincoln Avenue Corridor and in the surrounding streets between North and Clinton Avenues. People of all ages grabbed bags, rakes and gloves to help make the neighborhood more vibrant.

City of New Rochelle Launches Student Housing Business Registration Program

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- A new law instituted by the City of New Rochelle now requires all property owners housing three (3) or more students within New Rochelle to register their property on the City’s newly-created Student Housing Business Registration website.  Initial registration must be completed by September 30, 2016.  

The information collected will help the City:

·         Create a comprehensive student housing directory

·         Protect the safety of students from overcrowding situations

Iona’s offensive prowess showed promise, but the Huskies bellied the blows and rose to show why they received two first place votes in the 2016 American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College women's soccer team fell in its home opener Friday afternoon, falling to Columbia, 4-0. The Lions scored three times in the final 25 minutes to seal the victory.

Columbia put pressure on the Gaels in the opening portion of the first half. Junior Tiffany Martinez made two close-quarters saves just four minutes into the game. Lions' senior Grace Taylor fired a shot on Iona’s net and followed with a quick rebound attempt but the Gaels' goalkeeper was up to the early challenge.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY -- The Iona College volleyball team dropped matches to Fordham and Lehigh to complete action at the CCSU Invitational at Detrick Gymnasium. The Rams won the opener in three sets and the Mountain Hawks erased a 2-1 deficit to win in five sets in the night cap. Sophomore libero Jessica Paolucci was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance in the Gaels three contests at Central Connecticut.
